article just came out saying blm pins are against dress code for being “personal” “political” or “religious”?? now baristas are quitting(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by cilantroprince
i’d quit too if i wasn’t already on LOA and have rent to pay. yikes starbucks

the only thing i don’t understand is why blm pins aren’t allowed but pride pins are ???
cilantroprince [OP]8 points3y ago
that’s exactly it. their stance is so weird and hypocritical? saying essentially “we stand with black lives matter, but we won’t let baristas say they do because it could hurt the company name” and they won’t allow black pride pins either
perfecktenschlog3 points3y ago
it would make more sense if they didn’t let pride either but cmon man...
They don’t want us wearing pins/shirts that could inflame customers and put ourselves in danger. It’s a safety issue.
cilantroprince [OP]4 points3y ago
that’s not true actually. they allow certain pins but they specified no blm pins because it’s political when it’s really not

They allow Starbucks issued pins. As of right now, Starbucks doesn’t have BLM pin. BLM might not be “political”, but it is a hot and controversial issue right now (I don’t think it should be controversial, but it is) and because it’s such a hot topic and there are people who are not supportive of BLM, Starbucks doesn’t want some angry racist customer to loose his cool at a partner because said partner has a BLM pin.

You’re allowed to have up to 2 non Starbucks issued pins on your hat or apron. And tbh most of my hat is covered in pins not issued by starbucks and I’ve had local corporate and people from Seattle in my store and they’ve never said anything about the 15+ pins on my hat that weren’t issued by Starbucks.
There are homophobes and transphobes EVERYWHERE, but we can wear pride and pronoun pins. This isn’t a political or controversial issue. It’s a human rights movement and Starbucks shouldn’t be stopping baristas from wearing BLM or Black Pride pins. 🤷🏻♀️

Millions of other small and large companies aren’t afraid to show their active support for Black Lives Matter at the risk of losing possible income. Starbucks needs to set their priorities straight, because one issue is far larger then the other.

um... that makes zero fucking sense for a number of reasons but let’s just start with the fact that it is not our job to protect ourselves from being “endangered” by inflamed racist customers???
mykotman122 points3y ago
So who’s job is it to protect yourself?

I plan on having mine front and center, right next to my pride pin. They can right me up, they can fire me, but I will not be silent any longer. These past few months have highlighted just how important life is. I support and will stand for what RIGHT, greed be damned.
cilantroprince [OP]1 points3y ago
they changed their mind because everyone got mad so hell yeah wear that pin we all earned it

Someone leaked it to Buzzfeed: There’s a screen shot in the article
