My first day back... (Georgia) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by indecisivejames
Since I transferred right before the pandemic was a broader thing in the US.

I came back, expecting people to be more aware of their health and of those around them, but I opened this morning, and I was the ONLY partner wearing a mask, shift included. About half the partners came in wearing masks, but they kept taking them on and off, so what’s the point??

I opted to take the COVID leave, but due to our “business needs,” it really didn’t matter, and I had to come back because I had to keep my health insurance. I’m putting my health, my boyfriend is at risk, and all the while COVID cases aren’t slowing down. I feel like I’ve got no ground to stand on, and no one really cares. I want to keep working, because I need health insurance, but what’s the point if I potentially infect myself and other people? /endrant

TL;DR I’m annoyed with the state of things at Sbux, and don’t know if I can’t actually handle working there much longer, just based on my health.

It is REQUIRED for all baristas to wear masks. You need to talk to your SM if your shift is not enforcing this.

Also you could have taken option two and kept your benefits and taken unemployment

My understanding was that option 2 was only available if they didn’t need partners to work, which according to my SM, our “business needs” were necessary for me to work.

I chose option 2, but had to go back (but if there’s something I can do to actually *not* work during this pandemic and keep my benefits, I’d absolutely love that).

Oh well if you’re store was severely understaffed then there was the chance they would make you stay so that makes sense

But definitely go to your SM about the masks

Thank you. In fact I had one partner take their mask off after the SM left today.

It’s frustrating because I transferred right before the pandemic began, so this is my first time at this store and trying not to be “that person”

Yet I want to keep the health of myself and others at the top.

I’m a shift and I have literally sent partners home who refuse to wear their masks
