Sooooo how are you guys reacting towards this? I personally don't know how to feel. I feel that it's partially justified but I'd like some opinions. (i.redd.it)

To answer the question I am mad as hell, and am scheduled for a meeting with my SM and DM over it.

BLM isn't political. Just as pride isn't political. We're all happy to celebrate pride, which draws a lot of hate, but we're just going to ignore that without POC protesting there wouldn't be pride...... I don't know if my rambling there makes sense but I'm angry.

But by the same token. You aren't allowed to wear your own pins (per dress code policy). Like I couldn't wear a golden girls pin, or a SpongeBob pin. It's the same.

The pins and shirts available through black partner network were approved. No one says you're not allowed but you have to be within dress code.

Since there weren't any available blm shirts, or pins, through SBux, but there were pride shirts and pins thats kinda a moot point.

Does it count as wearing anything if I get it as a tattoo?

Prob controversial, but I get where corporate is coming from. To allow employees to wear merch in support of a very heated topic rn is dangerous. Don’t get me wrong I support BLM all the way but I also think people are directing their anger at Starbucks unnecessarily. Starbucks has done a lot to create an inclusive and diverse corporation. I’ve worked for a lot of companies and Starbucks is by far the most progressive one. You have to think about everything they need to consider when making a decision like this, partner safety being their top priority. It’s the same with the mask policy. I live in a place where a McDonald’s got shot up because they told a lady their lobby was closed, so like... I get it. Also, we need to keep in mind that as a corporation they don’t have to take a political stance on anything so the fact that they have at the very least come out in support and are donating to community led organizations for BLM is a big deal.

That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep pushing for progress. We also can’t let these isolated incidents where someone who breaks the law and then excuses their bad behavior on being triggered by masks, BLM, Pride etc. hold the the rest of us hostage

I agree with you completely, but I also recognize where the company stands on liability and everything. Besides. I think they just announced shirts and retracted their statement on pins. Either way I support BLM. My only point is just that Starbucks has to be careful when they make decisions like this.

I agree with you that Starbucks or any business needs to take consideration how these issues affect their employees. Having said that, BLM is a human rights issue and Starbucks put themselves out there for Pride. It seems hypocritical to support one and not the other.
Of course, this is one of many corporations that refuses to pay a living wage for an honest day’s work so, in the end technically speaking, it’s a lot of talk without action to back it up. I recently took the severance but I was a 155 that was paid well above minimum because Starbucks was actually quite generous with their pay when I was first hired. It’s really sad to see them toss those values by the wayside

I agree so much. How many other corporations won’t allow their employees to wear BLM/Pride things? Perspective is important. I’m so tired of everyone shitting on a really good company to work for just because they a)are bored and want to stir the pot or b) are too inexperienced to know any better.

In my opinion, all political stuff should stay out of the workplace. I think that starbucks should make it clear that they support everyone and leave it at that. I just think it creates a safer place for employees. Racial bias training? Im all for it! Allowing blm shirts and pins, pride shirts and pins? Im not so much a fan of it. Do i support gay and black people? Yes! Of course! But i think it should stay out of the workplace. If you feel differently or similarly please reply to me and explain why. I would love to have a conversation about this

Yeah I am really tired of hearing my friends call for a boycott when we are literally one of the most inclusive companies I’ve ever worked for (and I’ve been around for a while). Before this negative press there were still resources available on the hub, but no one wants to talk about the good things. It’s so sad.
