How to bet better at drive+dto?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by alildumn
Hey yall! Ive been with starbucks about 3 weeks and i feel like in getting the hang of most things except for when I have to do both parts of drive thru. Every time, we end up with a huge line and someone has to come do dto while i ring people up. Im pretty comfortable with entering orders in the reg, so its not that.
I think my biggest issue is remembering an order for longer than 1 second after hearing it haha. Like if i dont punch it in right away, i have to ask them to repeat it. Which sucks when the person at the window has a question or if i need to hand them their drinks and meanwhile someone in placing their order. Anyone have any suggestions for rememebering orders while doing something else? The answer could just be to give it time, but maybe someone here has some tips. Thank you!

My suggestion is to try to picture the drink in your mind as if it was for you. You want the caramel ribbon frap. When you ask if they want toppings or whipped cream, you pretend you are asking yourself. It’s a lot easier to remember what you think you want than what someone else tells you they want

This is exactly my mindset when making drinks too, I make them as if i'm the one thats gonna drink it. To me it's kinda common sense to think like that but I feel like a lot of baristas don't do that.

Well, I tried to taste my way through the entire menu of drinks. The hot coconut milk latte was... unfortunate. I don’t like pretending that’s for me 🥥+☕️=🤭

i also forget easily so my trick is to repeat the order out loud so that u hear it as well ex. “i want two grande caramel fraps” “great, two grande caramel fraps, with whip?” “yes” “perfect two grande caramel fraps with whipped cream!” its easier to remember what they said after i said it myself! sometimes i dont even pay attention to what theyre saying i just repeat them like a little monkey while running around lmao but once i get to the screen ill remember what i said

tbh I just don’t take orders at the same time I’m serving someone at the window unless something real unexpected happens.

Similar to what the previous commenter said, I try to picture myself pressing each of the buttons if I’m away from the screen. For example if they want a venti vanilla latte with 12 pumps vanilla, I picture myself clicking the latte button, then the vanilla, and changing it to twelve pumps, and changing the size! Idk if that makes sense but it is has helped me!!
