Ya everything said here is correct. Our district was like this one, which is a minority, where they actually had more hours available than baristas willing to work. Part of option two was basically being put on call to be called back at anytime at a week’s notice. It was never a really good option to begin with for people that were not looking to come back to work until November. A few option 2’s got denied in our district as well. Option 2’s will start being called back fairly quickly everywhere if sales keep trending up.
The only option 2’s who will not be called back before were start hiring again in our district are: pregnant, obese, severely immuno-compromised, and over 65 partners...so people who are high risk populations to the virus.
Basically corporate’s view, whether you agree with it or not, is that they are paying your benefits while still putting people in a position to get unemployment, in exchange for have experienced partners on the floor at one week’s notice instead of having an unexperienced partner on the floor at 5 weeks notice, so they can staff store quickly as business picks up.
Their view would be, “you want to take an LOA until we have enough hours available? Good news, we had so many people take an LOA we have hours available now.”
