What do you do if partner is messy on bar? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by flatwhitewpg
I get how hard it is to follow bar routine and be organized on the bar . But what do you do if certain partners simply turn a clean bar to an absolute hell lol.

I'm talking about all dairy and non dairy out of fridge, CB area disgusting and spills everywhere.

Tried to go over the importance of keeping things in fridge and went over the what and why.
Do you guys have any ideas ? Our store tends to be so busy all day. 1500-1800 transactions in a day.

I find myself destroying bars in under 15 minutes during peak. It’s hard to stay clean AND under 40 seconds at all times. That’s why teamwork is so important!!

I get being a bit messy when your in the middle of a rush but if you’re not doing anything clean ur bar

I think it depends on the partner and if the mess is worth the speed. I work in a busy drive through store and am on bar for my whole shift every time I work. I’m organized but I do leave my milks out and I am messy. No matter what I do or how much I try to slow down I make a mess, everyone I work with knows this. Since corporate cares so much about our times my store is fine with me being a hot mess and has people with a little spare time help me wipe stuff down and clean stuff up, that’s what works for us. If the messy partner isn’t making up for the mess with speed that’s another story but you have to figure out what works for your specific store.

I’m very fast on bar myself, but I’m able to keep my bar clean. I found that by putting everything where it belongs at all times helps my muscle memory so I never have to think about grabbing stuff or try to visually find it on my bar. Once you have muscle memory, barring becomes very easy and you can go super fast while keeping the bar clean.

I don’t disagree with your comments on muscle memory but I’ve worked and barred in the same store for over 4 years know where everything is without thinking about it and even then I can’t help being messy. Everything is where it’s supposed to be except maybe the milks on the counter but that’s how my store has always been. Muscle memory doesn’t stop me from spilling milk, pumping syrups too hard and getting a bit of splash back etc. Props to all the bar partners who can go super fast and keep it clean I’m just not one of them, and all the clean bar partners in my store just happen to be a bit slower than I am so my store worked around it, but like I said every store is different you gotta figure out what works for you.

Oh yeah for sure. Some partners will be messy bar people no matter how long they’ve been with the company. I have a few partners like that at my store. I just clean the bar for them when I can while they bar :)
I’ve been with Starbucks for close to 8 years and I’ve been a messy bar person myself before haha

I honestly can't see how being messy on the bar makes it efficient to anyone. But honestly that's interesting. I want to stay humble (but you don't know me so it's okay), I'm really clean on the bar and super duper efficient. I am totally okay with spills , certain items out of the bar but not everything 😭. Beside , I'm jealous because I rarely go to the bar now

I don't get how ppl don't get splash back poruing milk or don't spill a bit of powder or pieces and still go fast. Even when I'm going slow it happenes maybe I'm just cursed.

Also of u have three pink drinks in a row it's kind of a waste to put the milk back and take it out each time when it'll b out it two seconds again, especially when ur bar partner needs it too that's usually why stuff ends up not put away where I am but we're also high traffic

I work with someone who leaves the pitchers on the the pitcher rinser like it's my job to finish putting it away for them 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I dont know why but it's honestly my biggest pet peeve. Also I hate hearing the water just running into the sink constantly. What a waste.

I feel ya. I'm not expecting the bar to be shinny but some partners leave everything out of the fridge. Evey single non dairy and dairy

I try to find one way for them to be neater on bar, and coach them on it all day, or all week until they get better at it. And if they don't get better at it I flex them off bar until it slows down. After a few weeks they're not a mess on bar anymore.

I just say “a messy bar stresses me out” and just say that as I clean up everything the first time so that they see and hear that and then usually they try to keep clean or clean up their messes after. Or just say could you try and keep bar clean I just can’t work when it’s a mess like this. And offer to help clean it as well that usually works for me

I am all about empowering my partners and making them see the importance of it. But, I always fail when it comes to the bar because I keep hearing it's busy.

Either clean up after them or bully them into cleaning up after themselves.
flatwhitewpg [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Omg haha , I'm not going to bully them. I honestly wanted to see what other ssv do
the1noir 1 points 3y ago
I say bully but obviously I don’t mean to be aggressive lol. But sometimes it takes all your partners and supervisors to CONSTANTLY be on their ass about cleaning up after themselves.

I know what you mean. Usually my team really listen to me when it comes to ANYTHING except keeping the bar clean.
