I for one, stopped giving a shit about my managers constant """"input"""". If all she has to say is "you need to talk to customers more", I honest to god do not give a shit.
I didnt join this company to talk to people. Not saying I dislike talking to people. But I came here for COFFEE. Not socializing.
Especially since the company seems to have made this ridiculously stupid decision to outsource for hiring store managers. Sure, you have a lot of admin work. But having to actually WORK with you, I feel like Im working with someone whos just coming out of training and will do great. But thats all they ever feel like. They never actually feel like they can stand on their own two feet. So, I could care less about their feedback. Whenever Ive had to bar with my SM she does more talking than drink output. It slows us down.
Managing stress while working on bar: I dont let myself get stressed. Take your time reading stickers. Focus on what you can and know your limits. Keep trying to improve your bar skills. Learn to multi task more. Learn to work on more than 1 drink at a time.
If someone asks for a ridiculous amount of splendas or whatever, set the drink aside for a second. Work on the next drink, that isnt asking for something stupid. While you have the milk steaming, shots pulling, blending, whatever, get a short cup and count out all the packets of sweetener they want. Once you have that, put them all in the short cup. Ive found myself stressing out trying to individually count it and do it all in one go. Then I lose count.
Learning to bar efficiently is a lot about setting yourself up for the next drinks you have coming, while finishing up what you're doing. Learn to make use of the few seconds you have inbetween drinks. Shifts also go by a lot quicker.
I dont care what they claim, customers would rather have their drink in hand faster. They look more annoyed when people sit there asking "HoWs YoUr DaY?" while working on ONE drink at a time.
I also cant pretend to give a shit about whatever Karen is talking to me about, while I have 4 other people waiting on their drink.

I have really bad anxiety and can be a control freak/perfectionist so I totally get you! I struggled with stress the first few months, but you need to train your brain to leave work stress at work. It's just coffee! If you need to cry or vent sometimes its ok, but I like what Jinkx from Rupauls Drag Race says - water off a ducks back! Try not to take anything personally. Take it 2 drinks at a time on bar and stay calm and peaceful, people can wait. Making sure the drink is correct and in sequence is more important than being super fast. I ask lots of questions and do my best to keep my space clean and organized. Once you get comfortable with everything you can start picking up speed.

Headspace.
All jokes aside, I like to read, play music, and work out to relieve stress.

I like to work out, but I’m kind of worried about going to the gym again because of the pandemic. I should pick up reading again though:)
