I'm sorry you guys had to deal with that. Good on you for saying something too.

Here's my story for the week.

I'm at a proudly serving store, so a licensed store on base. We're a cafe only, no mobile orders or drive. Right next to us is a hospital. The ER team comes in daily, sending one or two people with at least an 8 drink order with traveler. Okay, cool. When ordering they often talk about how important their coffee is because they work in the ER. Like, they bring this up extensively. The only other time they've called in a traveler is when they decided to order 15 min prior to closing. So yesterday I get a call during the afternoon rush. The following conversation occurred.

Me: This is so'n' so at Starbucks. How may I help you?

Customer: I'd like to place a to go order.

M: Unfortunately sir, we don't take orders over the phone, per policy. We don't do mobile orders at this location.

C: I'm trying to order one of those boxes for over here at the ER.

M: Oh, okay. We can get that started for you.

C: Well, no. I want to order other things too. Its for the ER. We're over here working hard and we dont have time to wait for everything.

M: We can get that traveler started for you. But you'll have to order the other items at the register.

C: We're essential medical personnel since we're over here at the ER. I've called in an order before.

M: Unfortunately sir, I've had one too many people call an order in, then decide the line to the register is too long and walk away. So I can get that traveler started for you, but I will not be taking drink orders over the phone.

C: Well, this is for the ER team. We're in all the time.

M: I understand sir. Did you want me to get that traveler started?

C: No. Now I have to find someone in the ER with the time to go over and wait for our order.

M: Alright sir. Have a great day.

10 min later a very nice lady placed an order for the traveler. She did not wait too long as she arrived at the end of our rush.
We serve all types of essential personnel on base. Other medical, security forces, engineering. None of which act as entitled as this particular ER crew. I really was speechless at the end of this call.

When we first opened back to grab and go, a guy asked if our restrooms were open and i said only for first responders. We cut chat while he waited at hand-off plane, gets his drink, and then whisper-asks, hey do you think you could pretend I'm a first response, just this once? No fuckface, I can't, won't, and totally don't respect that you just asked.

Unfortunately that is your main demographic. Starbucks caters to entitled people. Many of your customers go there to get their one of a kind, special drink. They can be a pain in the butt. But they are the ones willing to spend a lot on coffee. More easy going people just make coffee at home or get it some place less expensive. Try not to take it personally and remember that Starbucks is kind of geared toward serving entitled people. They are some of your most frequent customers.

On my 6 hour shift today I had at least 30 people ask to use the bathroom. We aren't a drive thru or a big commuter store. Since covid we barely hit 3k, maybe 4k if we are lucky. But to have at least 30 people ask and try to bend our rules is ridiculous. Most of them know better but insist on asking anyways. Just go to the gas station across the street.

We have several cones, tables and chairs blocking our bathroom and a woman who hadn’t ordered climbed over them. Now we have one of those folding signs in front of the barricade that says “RESTROOMS CLOSED. USE JIMMY JOHNS NEXT DOOR”

I had someone tell me the last week that it’s “downright *cruel*” that we sell coffee but have our restrooms closed to customers. As if that something I can change? Our county was still in the red at the time.
