Is that due to a call out? That's fucked up
dalenakitty 17 points 3y ago
I feel for all the store being affected. We have been pretty lucky at my store and our sales are flat with last year's so we are barely getting cuts. I really feel for the cafe stores the most though. Everytime I go to one, it is a 2 man floor with a full lobby. RIP.

Yeah, I call bullshit

I’ve been doing research on it and Starbucks’ revenue for 2019 was $1 how is only $2 billion a loss? In terms of percentage lost, yeah sure. However, $26 billion is a lot of f——ing money. It’s a gigantic number!! They didn’t have to give us catastrophe pay at all, or service pay. Don’t bullshit us about “getting numbers back up” when the yearly revenue is $26 billion. They should have just publicized the heck out of how well they took care of their employees and taken the great press to get their sales up. Personally I see a lot about the companies that paid people through the COVID-19 crisis and I choose to shop from those companies rather than to support the companies who didn’t.

pretty sure that the catastrophe pay thing for Starbucks was written about on every major news website saw a couple articles on fox yahoo and so on
NOTcreative- -28 points 3y ago
Sorry why? the reality is cat pay etc cost the company $2 billion dollars while losing profits with store closures and reduced business due to people isolated. They ran at a huge deficit and continue to do so, most stores are not profitable currently. My store is down over 70% still and I personally believe it doesn’t make sense to stay open business wise. But they’re not thinking about business right now. They’re thinking about keeping people employed and serving the community.
TheStarsGazer 32 points 3y ago
You really are delusional if you ever think Starbucks isn’t thinking about business right now :)
NOTcreative- 5 points 3y ago
You say I’m delusional and downvote, I say you’re cynical and don’t downvote. Perspective, the difference is im happy with this job and glad I wasn’t working for anyone else during all this with all my friends unemployed or put at risk due to lax safety precautions. And I’ve worked for 20+ companies and know what it’s truly like to work for a bad one.

Starbucks has had years to plan ahead for this kind of thing. Not to say that they can predict the future, but let's think about this for a second.

They offer benefits that many do not use.

They basically give away product with their current business model on a daily basis.

They encourage us to order more food than we can use in a day, then throw it out.

They spend more in lost training costs due to having a horrible training system. The trend I have seen is people get through training and then quit a few days or weeks later.

Their business model is horrible. They claim not to be fast food, yet they want 30 second window times with cut hours, increasingly complicated drink customization and food, etc.

Barista can easily spend more hours in a day diffusing customer interactions or handling out of control customers due to the training Starbucks has given their customers: "you are always right, we will never day no, here is a gift card to shut you up".

Starbucks is fast food running on a lofty restaurant model. They can afford to be open and sustain a bit of a loss. They'll get money bail out from the government.

sm told me she couldn’t give me anymore hours and said i could go on leave of absence. that was three weeks ago and i never got my LOA papers/email 🙃
Meinax151 [OP] 4 points 3y ago
I'm starting to think the only options are stay or quit, with the amount of people I'm hearing that are being screwed out of the LOA. It's ridiculous
aesopamnesiac 7 points 3y ago
Bullshit. Execs have taken no pay loss and managers are even getting an 85% bonus.
alishka1001 1 points 3y ago
wait whaaat. 85%? where did u hear this..
aesopamnesiac 2 points 3y ago
A manager that quit over the BLM ban made a post on their instagram.

I’m glad that my store stayed open during March-April because my hours were only cut down to 30-34 from 39. I feel for those in stores that closed as they’re lucky to get 20 hours

Yup. I work a whole whopping 13.5 next week!
