I need advice!! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by notyourbarbi3
Hi!! So I’ve been a barista since October, but our GM didn’t start putting me on bar until early March—which was right before covid, mind you, and when he did, it was only for a few min at a time—. Because of this, I’ve gotten really out of practice, and I don’t really remember recipes well. I haven’t done a whole shift on bar yet, but I know that I’m probably going to have to close bar tomorrow. I’m very very very anxious about it. Any advice???

Every drink is a latte. A cappuccino? Foamy latte. Mocha? Chocolate latte with whipped cream. This helps with seasonal recipes. Once you realize that they’re all just flavored lattes. Other than that, just have fun. Make sure to clean consistently and do a little restock after every rush so you don’t have to do everything at the end.

A flat white is a latte with whole milk , an extra shot, and they’re all ristretto shots ! A well rounded barista can make a dot in the center of a flat white

The things I struggle the most to remember is cold foams & stuff. Honestly I'm still not positive but I know cold foam gets nonfat milk and blended on setting 4! Also every hot drink syrup pumps go from Tall-Venti 3,4,5. Shots are 1,2,2 and Americano shots are 1,2,3,4 starting at 1 for short size. Frappuccino syrup pumps are 2,3,4 and to make it, you start with frap roast in the cup, fill the milk to the first line and dump it in the blender. Then do syrups, Frap or cream frap syrup and a scoop of ice. All frappuccinos default with whipped cream except for coffee and espresso fraps. Also, caramel fraps default with caramel drizzle on the whip but mocha fraps just get whipped cream. The drinks pretty much all follow the same recipe, once you do them a few times it'll all come naturally. You got this and good luck!!

Hi! Trainer here, so to correct you a little, cold foam toppers (a layer on top of a drink) get blended on 3. When the base of the drink is blended (e.g. iced caramel cloud macchiato) we blend on 4. And the recipe for standard cold foam is 100ml of nonfat, 2 pumps vanilla, blend on 3. If you have any questions let me know I have lots of time!

Are there any drinks in particular you are sure you don’t know? I could go over them with you.

Okay so: Salted Cream Cold Foam Cild Brew: Caramel Syrup on the bottom 3, 4, 6, 7 then cold brew to the top line. Add ice to about 1 in from the top and add your foam. Foam is 100 ml of vanilla sweat cream and two packets of salt blended on 3.

Vanilla sweat cream cold brew is similar except it’s vanilla at the bottom 3, 4, 6, 7 and cold brew to the top line. Ice to about ¼ inch from the top and sweat cream on top (not blended).

Plain cold foam is 100 ml of nonfat and 2 pumps vanilla blended on 3. Just like the first blended topper, leave 1 inch room on top.

Anything else I’m forgetting? The cloud drinks can be a little confusing as well, let me know if you want those too!
