Be patient, and ask questions on how they’re feeling about every step! Write down generic recipe cards for the green bean to memorize when they’re learning bar. I’ve found that they really appreciate when you go the extra mile for them. It also helps them when they’re first getting started on solo’ing bar, which helps you and your SSV!! Good luck!!

Train them how you would want to be trained while still following the training steps and slides

Make sure your trainee is comfortable asking you questions. Follow up to see if they really understand. "do you get it" isn't good enough, make them repeat things back to you, and ask them open ended questions to give them a chance to express what they do and don't understand.

Be sure to ask how they learn best. Like more visual or hands on.

One of the things I do that has worked really well for just about everything but bar is just tell them how to do it and have them do it. Sure when learning CS walk around with them, but for the most part step back and let them do it. Bar needs a little more show and then step back for obvious reasons, but even then unless they struggle with steaming milk I talk them through it and let them go to town.

I also ask my trainee a lot of questions about how they think things should be done or what they remember from the module (and i make sure they're comfortable enough to tell me they dont know/to ask questions). That way their critical thinking gears start turning and I've noticed that when asked to do something they havent done yet they ask "how do i do it?" instead of just saying "i don't know how to do that".

For me, if things are running smoothly I'm fucking bORED because I'm only stepping in to correct minor things while my trainee just runs with it!
