Hey! I just wanted to thank you guys. Sometimes I go on here and it does seem kind of negative. But I feel like it’s a comraderie of negativity. Like we are all in this together and this is a place to vent!
But really just wanted to thank you guys for the tips you post. Particularly the complaints about being on X position for your whole shift
I got promoted to supervisor pretty quickly and I came from a store where we pretty much did the same position the entire shift. I didn’t think it was weird. But y’all be bringing up how your backs hurt and your feet hurt.
My manager and DM are always super specific about the PLAY and how I gotta stick to the PLAY and how it’ll keep everything running smoothly.
You guys make me more mindful of the actual people I work with and if they wanna switch it up. Whether it’s making sure everyone gets bar practice or if someone is having a tough day and just needs to CS.
Thank you :)

I was taught that shifts should be placed in positions where they can easily observe the whole store and provide support when needed. Naturally, then the CS or OS falls on the shift. The remaining is shared between the baristas. But agree, everyone should get a chance at every position. I have a partner that is always placed on register no matter when he works, I finally placed him on bar one day and he thought I was punishing him.

Aces in their places is generally just for peak. That's when I put my baristas where they do best. I also take into account how people are feeling that day and I try not to keep someone in the same spot for more than a couple hours (basically moving everyone around each round of breaks I run). At my first store, they would always stick me on drive through and as a new partner who was going through some pretty heavy stuff (I had severe anxiety and depression due to losing my fiance to cancer just months prior to starting), having to do DTO and DTW was way too much and I often had panic attacks at work. Now at my new store (which I not only helped open, but got promoted at), I keep that in mind when I run the floor. I want everyone to feel like they are important here in every role, not just be "the drive through person" or whatever.

I work closing so ‘aces in their places’ don’t apply as much. Although I’ve been having everyone exactly the same position since block scheduling started and I could see one of my baristas wearing out. My heart aches for him. I’m bar all the time since I’m the fastest on my block with the most accuracies. (The only offense I’ll cop to is batch blending)

I've never been on anything but register either. I've been trained on bar 3 times. I'm trained then months go by and I'm never put on bar, by the time I am, I can't remember any of the recipes, thus the training cycle starts again. It's very strange to me. Use it or lose it. I can memorize all the frap recipes in the world, but I'll be slow as shit if I only make 5 a year.

So many baristas will appreciate this!!! I get burnt out because I alternate weeks of DT and bar. I’ve had two shifts in a row that were 100% bar and I’m so tired. But if I complain they’ll put me somewhere else the entire time again. Granted I’m a strong DT and bar barista, but I also love CS. I just wanna rotate positions!

Thank you for being a great shift! Partners are happier and more well rounded when we get to practice different positions.

This subreddit is 90% negativity/complaining and 10% wholesomeness- like this post.

Yeah, because the vast majority of us aren't happy with the way this company treats us. It feels like between this, the general state of the US right now, and Covid it's all reaching a boiling point.

Serious question: if you are not happy with the company, why not look for something different?

everyone wants to complain about their job when you're having a tough time to people who will understand. you don't have to worry about hurting your coworkers feelings or bothering your friends & family and almost everyone here gets it and if you don't honestly what are you doing here ? we all like our job a little bit or ya know we just need money and this is where we're at and again we need to vent . if you don't agree with the post ignore it .
mykotman121 points3y ago
I never said I don’t agree. I just wanted to ask a question.
PurpleTIEFighter2 points3y ago
I am. It’s been really difficult in the current climate though which sucks.
mykotman122 points3y ago
Yeah I hear you. It does suck :/ I hope you find something better soon
