Managers really do so much 🙈 (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by flatwhitewpg
So last Friday my manager had to go on an urgent LOA for 10 days . So I was the proxy in the store.

Oh my..... Let me tell you one thing, there's a lot of stuff SM do that I didn't see it until today.

I'm a shift which is on a development plan due for interview but I never got any AsM training and it's a busy store.

Day 4 and my body hurts.

I’m on track for ASM too. Just waiting on a transfer. Care to share?

Of course! I'd be glad to share every little experience. I do want to point that I never got any training but I was always curious to know things.
Marking all dcr with the restock , asking partners how they are doing , coaching shifts but very settle with questions and making them feel interested to do it differently without coming as a learning experience. Checking FMT , calling other managers for advices , checking workplace for any recent news that partners don't get to see.
Changing the schedule because partners want to switch ... Dealing with customers that want to talk to manager just because. Going on conference call( listening to other managers ).
Checking cafe and fixing any wrong arrows...

I know it's different writing everything down like that. But I felt I was listening to partners a lot than normal and doing so many task that partners on the floor don't get to know about. Plus it's nerve racking sometimes to listen to ssv talking about certain task not done because transition was not great and you gotta give them an advice but not putting the other person on the spot.

I'd be happy to chat more and learn from your journey too. I learnt to write everything important down to share it with my manager when she's back

That sounds like what I do as a SSV every day. If you're not doing many of these things as an SSV then your SM is doing too much of your job for you.

When managers do that much work without delegating that makes it harder to develop.

I totally agree. She simply doesn't follow up with any ssv about anything. They are so spoiled and it's frustrating

This is helpful. Thank you. I was able to work with a very seasoned manager who showed me things here and there. And I’m naturally curious so I asked a ton of questions. My current SM is brand new (we’re her first store) so she shares a lot of stuffs with me, almost like we’re learning together. I’m partly excited but also partly nervous about moving up. I’m excited that you got a chance to do a trial run, although it sounded like you were thrown into the deep end.

It does feel a little like that. But I'm learning so much. Best of luck to you 💚
