Schedule changes and lack of communication(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by GalacticPrime
To make a long story short, I was scheduled to work today at 3:45 PM and my SM changed my schedule without asking me or letting me know. So I get a call at 3:10 asking where I am, apparently i was supposed to be in at 3:00, but the screenshot of my schedule says 3:45. I got there a few minutes later, I live right down the street, and my SM seemed really mad at me. Apparently she did this to another partner today as well.
Is it common for SM’s to change the schedule around and just not let anyone know? She told me I should check the app on my phone every day in case she updates it, but I don’t have the app and even if I did I really don’t think it’s right to change a partner’s schedule without asking or at the very least letting us know. The schedule that’s posted is the one I go off of. I’ve just never had this happen at any job before and I was made to feel like it was my fault. Is there a policy on this?

Asshole managers do this all the time. As long as you keep screenshots or pics of the schedule you can protect yourself from backlash. If they change your schedule without notifying you its on them.

I always keep screenshots, it’s a habit of mine. I just checked what else my SM updated and I have a bunch of shifts that I previously wasn’t scheduled for. I’m afraid to confront her about this but I guess that’s what I have to do now.

Yup happened often at my own store. I got in the habit of screen shooting my schedule. And it’s bullshit that they tell you you need to be constantly checking it. Our schedules are supposed to be made 3 weeks in advanced. If it happens occasionally, it’s on the manager to communicate those changes with you. It should not be a common occurrence.

Not normal, not ok. Once a schedule is posted, that's the schedule and it's not supposed to be changed without communicating that to everyone impacted by the change.
There is no clear written policy on this that I could find on partner hub, though a few locations have labor laws that make that kind of last minute change illegal.

Also, I just checked my the rest of my schedule and my SM just straight up added a bunch of shifts on my off days. Uh, is this allowed?!

I would give PRC a call and see what they have to say about the matter. I'm pretty sure completely changing your schedule last minute without communicating it is a no-go.

Thank you for the suggestion!

Well I just had 5 partners take severance... Soooo
Maybe they're stressed and pushed to their breaking point too and you guys could communicate about it?? Maybe they'd apologize for the mistake and you could forgive them?
Might be the best choice.

I already talked to her about it and she said it was my fault for not checking the app every day, which is just so bizarre. No apology at all :/ plus no partners from my store were allowed to take severance.
