Hypothetical positive Covid scenario (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by onelb_6oz
Hey all, I just have a hypothetical scenario I'm worried about because I'm an overthinker, haha. We've had one person test in our store, and it turned out to be negative. We live in a small town and for the most part have barely been affected by SARS-CoV-2, but our store is right off a major interstate. Last week our town had +10 cases, which is huge for us (before that we had about 20 cases TOTAL). I understand quarantining and primary contact, secondary, tertiary, etc. Let's say a partner does test positive though, how does it work for that partner? When would they be cleared to go back to work? The reason why I'm asking is because I know someone whose grandparents contracted Covid months ago, and have had multiple tests, but the tests keep coming back positive. If that were to happen to a partner wouldn't they be barred from working? Could they come back as long as they were asymptomatic? Would they even be paid for having to self-quarantine for longer than intended if they have to wait for a negative result?

If a partner tests positive, they are excluded from work until they have 2 negative tests, or after the CDC recommended quarantine time and absences of symptoms.

A manager then goes back over the schedule and instructs any partners who worked with the positive partner to isolate for and report symptoms. They are paid while on this mandated leave.

The store is also closed until it can be professionally cleaned.

Thabk you for your reply. That's what happened when the partner got tested. But what happens if the recommended quarantine has passed, the partner is asymptomatic, but continues to test positive, similar to those grandparents I know?

As long as you test positive you shouldn't come back to work. if you live with anyone who tests positive then you need to continue to quarantine. There's still a lot we don't know about COVID so better to be safe than risk infecting your partners and customers.
