Moving from a Starbucks to a Tarbucks(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by rebeccyuh
I currently work at a corporate owned store, and I have been getting sick of it. It’s taken a toll on my mental health and leaves me exhausted. I feel like my life revolves around work (my shifts are usually 4:30 am to 10). I know someone who works at a Tarbucks, and they got me an interview and I’m pretty much guaranteed the job. It’s going to be significantly higher pay, better management, being in a TARGET all day, and air conditioning that works (the AC at mine is broken). Any advice on making this change? do they do things differently at Target since it’s a licensed store?
also I just want to note that my manager or anyone at my current job knows about my plan to make the switch

Be prepared for most people to do things “wrong” since they don’t get the full Starbucks training. Also you probably don’t get a free drink and food every shift and every other benefit goes away

I have worked at two different Tarbucks and one allowed free drinks to the baristas....hopefully that will be the case with you, too !

All the benefits of Starbucks including free drinks and food are gone. None of the training. And if its anything like the Tarbucks I worked at you'll be running peak with three people if you're lucky. If you're unlucky it'll just be you. I left Tarbucks because the stress and complete lack of real management. Good luck.

The lack of training is on the lead and DM. The dm has the influence on targets leaders if they are not giving the specific target enough hours to train. Anytime I hire a new barista I refuse to let my HR give me any less then the full 40ish hours needed for brista basics.

I second this. This is why I left tarbucks. I was alone a lot with crash training.

I only have experience working at a corporate store but please don’t work somewhere that is taking a toll on your mental health. Especially not for minimum wage.
If it is the opening shifts that are getting you, can you ask to switch to something else? I used to work the 415am-1245 open and I was always exhausted after and felt sick. It’s not normal to do this for an extended period of time.
I don’t think target has the same benefits are corporate stores or advancement opportunities. If this is a short term job for you, I say go for it! If you want to stay with bucks for the long haul I would stay corporate.

The pay is higher, but you don’t get ANY Starbucks benefits (food and drink mark out, medical, free beans, Spotify, stocks, etc). Target has medical, but you need to work over 30 hours a week on average to qualify, and their medical is nowhere near as good as Starbucks. I used to work at target (not at tarbucks). Also, be prepared to be by yourself a lot. When I worked at target the my would always send me to tarbucks (they found out I worked at Starbucks) to cover their lunches because it was only one person working there. And their register system sucks ass.

Tarbucks team lead here.. If the team lead is strong it shouldn't be a bad time, maybe better? I am pretty strict on my team in terms of following proper beverage processes, but that will depend on the lead really. Their are uniform differences and some processes that target makes you do stricter then starbucks. 0 piercings and the only allowed jewelry is a basic wedding band. No free daily drink or coffee market, although pre covid i would allow my team to take a drink 5hat was made wrong if they were taking a break shortly.
