Same boat, except down here in Texas most of the baristas don’t care.
bjwilson2020 44 points 3y ago
I’m in Texas too, our partners care, it’s our customers who straight up don’t give a fuck about us. I’ve made it a point to police my customers about reading the signs in the store and keeping their fucking distance. If they are gonna open the cafe on us we cannot not let them run all over us. Our state fucking sucks.
MrHorse666 9 points 3y ago
I feel you, my sm and dm would have a shit fit if I did that. It’s also hard to keep track of the customers and the store, so I never get the chance to correct ppl.
Trump_Rim_Job 3 points 3y ago
Fellow Texan here (DFW). My perspective as a customer is that there are a ton of customers that don't care, going so far as trying to access the bathrooms when there is clear signage (and cones) that indicate its closed due to Covid. The baristas are masked & behind plexiglass, but customers aren't practicing social distancing consistently despite the circles on the floor.

Our state sucks in this regard.

I took the seperation packet, because I am immune compromised and when I asked for a medical leave until Sep 30; I was given an accomodation leave until June 20. Look up who is on the board of directors. People from Nike, Dominos, and worst of all; Apple of Greater China. No, corporate doesn't give a fuck about anything but the bottom line. I hope you can find better work in the future.

>when I asked for a medical leave until Sep 30; I was given an accomodation leave until June 20.

Holy fuck, lol. I'm so sorry this happened to you. :(

>Apple of Greater China

Sorry, what?
Amazona86 8 points 3y ago
She was brought into the Apple Corporation of Greater China to stop their profit loss.

Starbucks has been accused of poor accounting, and they put her on the board.

She sews the holes in billionaires pockets.

Interesting...

The hardest part has been keeping them out of the bathroom. It’s closed to customers rn and there are literally signs and tables blocking the way, but some horrid individuals choose to ignore the signs and go back there so we have to send someone (from our already very understaffed floor) to chase them out. But yes, SMs and DMs and corporate don’t care about us. The plexiglass is a joke bc it leaves room for people to lean over. Best part is the hand off counter isn’t plexi’d so people reach over to gra straws, stoppers, stir sticks, etc. lol
pleasesurpriseme 13 points 3y ago
We have our condo bar in front of the bathrooms blocking them off and folks have moved it to slip inside. I hate it!

same!

Luckily my store actually gives a fuck. Someone called in with Covid symptoms and the store shut down immediately. Thankfully just was strep throat. Still blessed to have management that gives a fuck.
cancerofcolor 8 points 3y ago
I wish I could say the same about my store! A shift lead at my store had to take about a week off because he was potentially exposed to someone who tested positive for covid. Throughout the week he was off, my SM kept blowing up his phone for whatever reasons. Luckily his test results came back negative but the lack of care and seriousness my SM displayed was appalling.
pretiburdi 13 points 3y ago
Call your board of health! They can take anonymous complaints and your local BOH can give you input as to whether your store should truly be open or not. While my BOH helped me after I broke down at work because of how bad everyone was about masks and enforcement and stuff, I still felt I had to take the option to quit. Don't worry ... I'm keeping an eye on my local stores and told my baristas to tell me any worries and I can anonymously ask BOH for them so they don't get in trouble.

our outdoor seating has been open for a week and indoor opened yesterday so I totally feel u too, it’s rlly scary and no customers wear masks and all act like everything is back to normal and any covid changes are huge inconveniences. we even opened one of our restrooms bc our DM wants us to let ppl use them rather than be safe bc a few ppl complained, though I still say no when ppl ask. I would feel somewhat better about the reopening if we could actually follow the procedures we should be, bc we don’t have the time or labor at high volume stores to go and sanitize after every customer and that’s scary.
suenologia 10 points 3y ago
i feel for you i really do; the absolute most you can do is express your concerns to your SM and DM and be sure to not only wear a mask but make sure yourself and your team are good about washing their hands and keeping clean. don’t put mobile orders out where customers can touch them and sanitize as often as reasonably possible. if anyone has a problem with you being cautious, let them know that doing that much not only gives you peace of mind but allows you to be sure that your store won’t be the reason the virus continues to spread.

my store is in dfw with cases soaring daily and i'm so irritated and nervous. my s/o and family members are at-risk individuals.
as much as i love my job, i feel betrayed that they deliberately did not tell us we were opening up the cafe when we were supposed to make our decision to stay or take the LOA .. if i knew i wouldn't have stayed
bedpan_3 5 points 3y ago
It frustrates me as well the way the pandemic precautions are ignored at my store. We have the lobby open for grab and go service, though several customers still come in and use the restroom and have now taken over there patio seating. It’s not even allowed at my store. Unfortunately my dm and sm refuse to deny customers so they continue to let it happen. Now whenever a customer asks me when the stores seating will be open I get so angry.

We were always expendable, this shit just shows how much.
JNYfromtheblock 3 points 3y ago
SMs don’t get a say in whether or not they should open the cafe. That comes directly from higher ups like Regional Directors and Regional VP’s. Customers may not care, but there are safety precautions in place. That being said, raise your concerns. Nothing can be done if the concerns aren’t voiced. Like someone else said, call your local health department and ask them about safety around COVID. Call PRSC with your concerns as well as your DM or even higher if need be.

Unfortunately, when working for a corporation, decisions are based around making money and keeping business afloat. It’s not easy working for the man. At least in my area sbux takes concerns very seriously and the DMs and above do everything they can to ensure we feel safe and comfortable.

I’m sorry you’re going through this and feel unsafe. I hope that you are able to voice those concerns and talk with someone about precautions and other safety measures for you and your store.

Side note: you can report the discussions around BLM to PRSC and business, ethics, and compliance to be investigated. This is potentially creating a hostile work environment and has no place being talked about in the workplace in that manner.

Good luck.

yea its straight bs, i would start talking to ur partners just about keeping each other safe. It's real life, and remember you come first.
hopelovepeace33 3 points 3y ago
I feel you, my store has had its patio open for a while & I learned today that the cafe will be reopening sometime soon. There are literally places in my area that have opened back up & are now shutting back down because there are cases rising in our area. It’s absolutely ridiculous that they are going to be putting partners at risk allowing people to come in and stay for HOURS without having to wear a mask. We’ve got older people who work in our store & people who are immune compromised & they are just going to allow people to come inside and hang out like nothing ever happened and not wear mask but it’s mandatory for us to protect the customers 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️ I hate my state!
Kaywin 2 points 3y ago
>There are literally places in my area that have opened back up & are now shutting back down because there are cases rising in our area

This sounds so aggravating to deal with as a partner. Are your coworkers whose stores are closing back down getting CAT pay? I'm not clear on whether the CAT pay that ended is just for folks who were voluntarily staying home, or if it was for everyone.
hopelovepeace33 2 points 3y ago
I don’t know if other Starbucks are closing due to cases but there are other businesses that are going back to curbside or just shutting down again completely. Sorry didn’t mean to cause confusion, I was just stating that if other places of business that are within the same area as my store then we shouldn’t be opening back up the cafe for people to come and sit for hours on end.
alycrawford42- 2 points 3y ago
I feeeeeel that.

We never have enough partners to have someone in the lobby counting customers or making sure they’re following our distance guidelines. It’s infuriating that they reopen our cafe, and tell us we’ll have a new position for the lobby for safety, and then we’re never scheduled with enough people to have someone in that role.

Whoever is on cafe bar is the one always having to keep a headcount. Customers never wear masks and ALWAYS get too close to the bar. It’s really starting to stress me out.
cancerofcolor 2 points 3y ago
My state had a recent spike in cases too and no one at my store seems to care. And of course majority of customers coming in aren’t wearing a mask. I feel doomed to say the least.

I have had disability paperwork on file since December. I was terminated for missing shifts while involuntarily hospitalized. I called when I got out of the hospital, said let my caseworker call you Monday. Within an hour, I had been reinstated and put on a personal leave of absence against my will. Now, instead of $400 a week FMLA leave, or unemployment, or SSI, I’m receiving nothing and my medical insurance has been suspended. No payments since May 11. I’ve already contacted Sedgwick and the PRSC, 7 days ago. No response. My SM and the DM are not returning my calls or texts. I’m broke. I’m going to be evicted at the end of the month, and I have over 20k in hospital bills.

1. Strike? Though I guess that'll likely just get you fired...
2. Transfer to a store in an area that gives more fucks about the pandemic. (My district has had a lot of changes to our reopening plan as we go because the situation changes so quickly. I'm in Los Angeles.)
3. Escalate to the regional manager?
4. Report what you're seeing to the partner/ethics help line? (I'm not remembering what it's actually called right now.)
