getting out of working happy hour because you're still 'new' and watching your coworkers suffer from a safe distance (i.redd.it)

More like getting out of happy hour because you made yourself unavailable on Thursday afternoons lol

AND WHAT A HAPPY 5 HOURS IT WAS TODAY
matchababyy [OP] 16 points 3y ago
may your soul rest peacefully tonight
GymLeaderFlame 4 points 3y ago
My store manager made it a point to have a lot of people scheduled until 4 thinking a bunch of people would come, but no they just assumed happy hour was still from 4 to 7, so chaos happened with only three partners and our shift
miniinovaa 3 points 3y ago
5 hours? Isn’t happy hour only 3?
ianbz 7 points 3y ago
2-7 unfortunately
brokenlatteart 1 points 3y ago
Hasn’t it always been 5 hours
MatchingColors 1 points 3y ago
I’m just venting
crzyshiba 35 points 3y ago
My shift ended at 2pm so I’m lucky but good luck to all the partners who are working

Getting out of working happy hour because you're block 1
slut4succulents_ 7 points 3y ago
im a nursing student and read this as block 1 of nursing school... is that what u meant??? lol😅
bnzkznsxn 9 points 3y ago
we have our shifts scheduled in blocks now (because of miss corona), one morning and one evening block
xbarbiedarbie 8 points 3y ago
Ha! No, we have block scheduling now to reduce the interactions between all of the employees at starbucks. About half of the people are block one (opening to about midday) and the other half are block 2 (midday to closing), that way if someone happens to get sick, theyxm've only really spent time with one block at the store instead of potentially all of the employees. Back before covid-19, I was frequently scheduled as opener omw day and closer the next day and midday the day after that, so this makes schedules a bit more consistent and you have a more consistent group of coworkers you see all the time.

My original comment was a little flippant, but in all honesty, after working our peak hours every day I work, it's nice to not work happy hour for once.
miniinovaa 2 points 3y ago
Dang is that all Starbucks? I don’t think mine does that lol
xbarbiedarbie 3 points 3y ago
It's supposed to be. One store in my district wasn't adhering to block scheduling and they had to close for 14 days and quarentine everyone because one person tested positive for covid-19 and they couldn't be reasonably sure she wasn't in contact with everyone. When they opened back up, she and 4 other people stayed out because of positive tests.

Sounds like rather face unionizing, the siren is going full fascist.
theblackwarlock44 15 points 3y ago
How about getting out of happy hour because our store decided to close at 4pm because of coronavirus precautions and you basically get the day off because getting into work at 3:45 meant nothing so your boss let you go and now you can get the day off.
violentfemme17 5 points 3y ago
Dang I need to hear more about this please
notyourbarbi3 13 points 3y ago
It was the happiest five incredibly-understaffed, overwhelming, painful hours of my measly existence 🤪
Athena_Lover 4 points 3y ago
God same.
kellyburns23 3 points 3y ago
Ugh so painful!
mouldyeggpatty 10 points 3y ago
Our Uber tablet broke right during the thick of it, which was lots of fun

Telling customers that we don’t do happy hour since we are a licensed location but there is a real Starbucks down the street...
lilBalzac 7 points 3y ago
Me and my crew just crushed ours. Actually went smooth, everyone was nice, only a few snags with the POS honoring the bogo... I was ready for it being much worse. I am sure it was bad other locations. My area is doing so much better with new COVID cases now that it seems a lot of people left town for a vacation weekend.
sunnyismybunny 5 points 3y ago
At one point today between mobiles and customers I had 9 different cups on my cold bar. They were all different Frappuccino’s.

That was...fun.
randomityrevealed 5 points 3y ago
Yesterday a family of 11 came in (not one wearing a mask, mind you) and ordered 18 Venti Fraps- 6 Caramel Ribbon, 6 Mocha Cookie, 6 S’mores. Then we built up a drive-through line around the building trying to make them as quickly as possible so that the 9 children, all under 13 and all unruly hellspawn, would be out of the store.

As a shift, I usually forgo my ten to ensure stuff gets done... I took my ten. 🙃😂
Canafaitrien 5 points 3y ago
Lucky you. It was not great
okeekee 5 points 3y ago
The only positive about block scheduling is my SM can’t schedule me for happy hours right now
korinaaa 4 points 3y ago
I just took an edible and hoped for the best 🤷🏻‍♀️ I survived lol.

Got hired on as a shift right before Corona turned the world upside-down, so today was my first happy hour. One of my closers called out at 4 and one of my other two partners was on day 2 post-training. When I went in at 1, the entire place was a mess and not much daily maintenance or support had been done.

All that being said, my team honestly KILLED it. We had a short spurt of rain which helped keep traffic down a smidge, but I honestly feel like I put my partners where they’re strengths are and it led to a really efficient dynamic, and we were able to keep ourselves going in between waves of people so that the close after wasn’t even as bad as expected.

Idk, maybe I’m just tooting my own horn looking for validation, or maybe my perspective is skewed and it was actually a shitshow. 🤪

Your day of reckoning will come
matchababyy [OP] 3 points 3y ago
now why would you say something so cruel....
Athena_Lover 4 points 3y ago
My support called in today. One new person, one person who never closes or is there past noon, one of my regular closing partners, and me as shift. So we didn’t do anything but make drinks until 7... I envy you. Lol
LittleMissFaust 4 points 3y ago
me, a rehire, getting today off
helloreanna 4 points 3y ago
Or when you work mornings and your off by 10:30 only to enjoy your afternoon thankful that you don’t have to work happy hour

The_9_month_lurker 3 points 3y ago
Feeling bad cuz morning was a mess and praying things go better for the afternoon crew
sanapa 2 points 3y ago
i wasnt originally scheduled but was asked to come in the night before, which i accepted cause i need hours, but hooooo boy. at one point my body reached its limit, and i refused to break my back over near minimum wage, so i just stopped caring how long people were waiting. i have lost 15-20 pounds since starting this job in november.
donalson 2 points 3y ago
in my nearly 4 years at bux I think I worked a total of 1 hr of frappy hr... back when it was a week or so long... by the 2nd year around I was an opener and was gone at latest right as it was starting lol...
misodeadinside 2 points 3y ago
WTH I was only on my second week as a green bean, and I was working the front on happy hour. I was dying...
sanapa 1 points 3y ago
this is the absolute worst time for green beans to experience their first happy hour, i am so sorry.
misodeadinside 1 points 3y ago
Oh! Lol no I was last happy hour. Not this one. I’m morning shift, I got lucky this time.
sanapa 1 points 3y ago
OH sorry, i lack reading comprehension lmaooo
420TinyandMighty 1 points 3y ago
We stayed busy well past happy hour ending..all the way to close! At 10! We went down to a 3 man exactly at 7 AND had a cleanplay! It was great.
