A little annoyed with my SM (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by katia_0828
She knows my dad died this year and literally only took off 5 days for his funeral. She scheduled me on Father’s Day and I texted her saying it’s a sensitive day and I won’t be emotionally stable to work. She responds with “well idk cause 2 ppl are on vacation and blah blah” like ever since I got here 2 ppl left and one quit and it’s like she refuses to hire more ppl and I’m left always closing and ALWAYS doing clean play. Idk what to do I have a personal day and sick time but I don’t know how to go about it. Any advice?

Edit: we’re a small cafe store that has literally 10 ppl

Just call out and say you have a fever. They literally can’t stop you because of the pandemic. Your store manager sounds like mine honestly.

Yeah and she’ll be like “that’s a symptom of COVID” and put me on 2 week unpaid leave lol

Obviously, your manager should help you find coverage, I’m sorry that they’re so unwilling and uncaring. Worst case scenario, idk what your state situation looks like, but in my state we have a Facebook group where we can ask other partners for cover. Is there a way to ask your local store’s partners for coverage help?

Just call out. Don’t even use the sick excuse just say you cannot work on that day. You are able to have your mental health days, and they can’t force you to work. Your SM is only caring about numbers, so you should just care for your mental health.
