my manager got my black ass closing with another black girl on juneteenth and none of my white or non black partners want to take my shift i am beyond annoyed. i am supposed to be celebrating my freedom but instead i’m being a slave for the white man and serving these white ass country ass customers in texas iiiiii want to cry 💀

we usually just have a family gathering and eat food or bbq nothing too grand, we just remember our past.

That sucks. 😐. On the bright side, I heard we are getting time and a half for the day as a newly identified holiday, although I don’t know for sure if that’s true. In any event, hopefully you’ll be able to enjoy the weekend, at least.

slavery wasn’t abolished all at once and the news took awhile to spread. on june 19 1865 the final slaves got news that they were freed. it has been celebrated by black families as the day we were all finally freed.
