What makes a good SM?

Advocating for your barista’s concerns and having meaningful conversations with us instead of repeating and regurgitating company propaganda.

So many things...

* Good communication, even if it's not what you want to hear.
* Supportive, someone who has your back and shows it.
* Accountable, takes responsibility for what happens in their store.
* Responsive, sets priorities and takes action in a timely manner.
* Resourceful, rallies the team to solve problems and isn't satisfied until they get fixed.

Being able to communicate new rules/ coporate requests to baristas clearly. Sometimes corporate makes rules and dont explain why. Also being able to put yourself in the barista position and being able to help and understand their concerns.

don’t ask anybody below you to do something you wouldn’t be willing to do, don’t pawn work off on people who are lower than you*. i’ve had managers in the past have me doing work that they should have had the knowledge to do, and had one manager verbatim tell me that she didn’t have time to learn how to do shipment so i had to stay late to get it done.

thankfully my SM now is the complete opposite, and spends most of his time on the floor and helping to support the team, and only does admin things within specific time slots that we all know he’ll be off the floor, and i find that to be a really great trait in a manager.

*this is not to say don’t delegate, because that’s absolutely something management should be doing, but if you’re not willing to do something yourself, how can you expect your employees to be willing to do it all the time.

Don't snap at us for petty things that aren't detrimental to the job. Especially to those who work hard

Literally just communicate with and advocate for your baristas. You’re here for US, not just corporate.
