I hate this. (self.starbucksbaristas)

We are out of venti cups, heavy cream, on the last whipped cream, last coffee base, out of most sandwiches, no java chips, down a person, are getting the big truck, AND most people are ordering $40 orders through the drive through. Three hours before close, truck is nowhere to be seen. I hate this.

God I’m so sorry this is awful and stressful and terrible and you and your partners totally don’t deserve that stress and frustration. I don’t want to belittle how much that kind of shift SUCKS.

I DO want to tell you how freakin’ amazing you are for making it through it. Today was a bitch and you stood up to it anyway and you should be really proud of yourself for that. I hope you go home and have a good dinner and put on comfy clothes and maybe watch some funny videos and get a good long rest because you very much deserve it.

The other day my store ran out of literally every breakfast/lunch sandwich and protein box (still had egg bites), coffee base and were down to one creme base, heavy cream, peach juice, pineapple ginger syrup, white tea, strawberry acai, cake pops, every loaf, and we ALMOST ran out of vanilla and mango dragonfruit. I feel you on this one.

The shift who places our orders doesn’t actually look at what he’s ordering, he clicks “accept” and then spends 15 minutes on his phone. We’re constantly out of one thing or another and calling around to other stores. We’ve been out of small shoppers, mango base, coffee frap base, caramel drizzle, and most recently strawberry açaí all week long until tonight. It’s oodles of fun.

I am supposed to do the orders but so many people whine about their schedule that I often must swap to accommodate newish baristas making more (with tips) than a 2 year shift. So yeah, I get blamed by the team, customers, and boss and boss’s boss all week when they don’t order even the things specifically instructed. “Oh HE didn’t order it!” Then I go home and cry. Fun stuff.

We are being let down right now. I am hopeful they will make it right for baristas and shifts who are giving %110 right now. Call me stupid, call me naive, but I am hopeful they will see what we are going through out here. We NEED to win back sales, which we cannot do by creating negative (potentially dangerous) backups a outages which are making for a lot of unpleasantness for both customers and baristas. We will lose quality partners and alienate returning and new guests with disappointing, frustrating, and chaotic backups. We get one chance to do this right, and we are off to a rocky start.
