just because someone might have it worse doesn’t mean other people don’t have the right to complain?? most of us are in shitty situations rn, and honestly looking at all of these posts about other people’s shitty days makes me feel a little better about my own shitty day. we’re in this together, and if you’re going to shame people for being upset then maybe you should leave this sub.

I appreciate you being relatively respectful, but this just isn't it, dude. We're dealing with a pandemic--this is more than just typical "the real world's tough" stuff, this is unprecedented and dangerous.

And for what's it's worth, the real world might not be as sucky as it is if there were more people willing to imagine how things could be better instead of just "growing up" and "being content with what they have." It's possible to be critical of an employer or a system while simultaneously being grateful for the advantages you do have.

Definitely sounds like you just hate labor rights. Talking down to and generalizing a whole group of people isn't an argument either. The tone of this is extremely demeaning. Not the move.

How is OP hating labor rights?

I just want to counterpoint that every partner is in a completely different sitation. Different store managers, different teams, different expectations. Some people have chronic illnesses, immunocompromised family members or have expenses that maybe you don’t have.

I don’t think it’s fair to judge partners you don’t know because you have no idea what they’re going through.

And I totally agree with this! I'm not trying to hate on everyone specifically, but the ones who constantly complain. I personally recently had a loved one of mine pass away, and got diagnosed with ADD and Autism. Just because these things happen doesn't mean it should be an excuse to constantly complain.

I'm not trying to invalidate anyone, but maybe coming to reddit and expecting yourself to be praised by everyone just is not realistic.

Although I appreciate the idea of Starbucks paying us cat pay for two months, had they temporarily laid employees off in that time and allowed them to come back once stores reopened, employees would have been able to make a lot more on unemployment and Starbucks would not be in the situation of making massive labor cuts to “earn back the money they paid us”. I do consider myself lucky to have this job right now, but I felt kind of trapped during those two months when people working other jobs were able to take unemployment and then later return to their jobs

We should be paid more.

Getting a second job or a new job, especially right now, isn’t really a possibility for A LOT of people. I think it’s perfectly valid to “complain” about this right now because we’re all getting severely overworked for not enough money, that’s just the fact of the matter.
