Block scheduling (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by randomyucky
I feel like it kinda defeats the purpose of block scheduling if partners from the am and pm shift are going to bars every night together

We had so many people take the separation option or have to go into quarantine at my store we regularly have to get people from the other block to cover shifts. There’s no point in it at all.

Can I ask what you mean by this? I’m genuinely confused about what the issue is

Block scheduling is supposed to be so that if someone on AM shift gets infected, PM shift can still work because they haven't worked together or been in contact. But if people from the AM shift and PM shift are hanging out every day and going to bars, the block scheduling is pointless and people are losing hours for no reason.

Oh I guess I misunderstood the purpose of the block scheduling then. To be fair I took the LOA and haven’t dealt with any of the scheduling changes. I thought block scheduling was just to make scheduling easier in general and prevent people from getting weird shifts.

No, it's just so that if someone in one of the blocks gets infected, only that block has to go on quarantine and not the other. Super frustrating seeing like 4-6 coworkers going on to bars every single night especially since our county is back to a level 1 covid area and we are only supposed to be going out for emergencies.

How does that work for people who have open availability and work flex shifts though. While I agree that the probably shouldn’t be going out to bars every night given the current situation, lots of baristas work varying shifts every day and in that case multiple blocks would have to quarantine.

It does and I told my sm that it was making me feel unsafe and like the scheduling was pointless and she actually had a conversation with everyone about it! You should bring it up to your sm if you can
mark71-8 5 points 3y ago
Yeah but unfortunately what partners do in their own time together is out of the control of your sm

I know. But she could at least say something so that the partners know everyone is uncomfortable. It’s better than just not saying anything
