As of recently, California has passed a law requiring masks throughout California. We have a sign that says “face masks required” but I’m being told by my SM that we are not allowed to enforce it for the “safety of our partners” and he was told this by our district manager. I’m confused- this is CALIFORNIA state LAW. Does Starbucks get to just choose not to enforce it? What about health of our partners and their families? Please let me know what your stores are doing! Thanks :)

Our state doesn't have any "required mask laws" unfortunately, the amount of people coming in without masks every single day, it's easily 90% of customers each day if not more, it makes me extremely uncomfortable especially with the new, and expected, rise in cases lately.

I’m in Ca myself and most of our customers wear masks. But for those few that don’t we do a few things:
1. We ask them to put a mask on or go grab one from their car (most people will do that after we ask).
2. If they say they don’t have a mask, we will provide them one (most people are with number 1 group).
3. If they refuse to wear one (only happened once so far) we will take their order and have them wait outside. If they pick up mobile, we ask for their name and bring it out to them outside, set it on the table (that we set up) and have them pick it up.

Yes I agree my store is doing all this. We try to make the moment right in anyway we can but we are not allowing no one in our store without a mask for the safety of our partners and the customers we have inside. I wish more SMS and DMs had kind souls like mine do.

That sounds like a good idea. But all were told is that if they don’t wear it, we can’t say anything. They’re doing it for “our safety” so that they don’t come back and harm us. Before knowing this, I was asking them nicely to wear a mask and wasn’t having an issue considering it is state law and not something I’m just choosing. My store manager says starbucks doesn’t allow us to enforce it.

My SM is the one who is asking partners to ask customers to wear masks. I think it’s more of a “store to store” basis. The area my store is in is pretty mellow and customers are very understanding. But my old store would have been a different story.
