I want to ask for a raise, and I be heard of people who've done it. Baristas that have negotiated themselves raises-how did you go about it

It’s extremely extremely rare from my experience. There’s the annual raise in January and if minimum wage goes up, that’s your raise. I knew an 11 year barista making about a dollar more than new hires.

It’s worth a shot for sure, never hurts to ask, but your manager will probably need to discuss with your DM and so on. I’d have a convincing reason going in because there’s still the possibility it’ll be okayed. Better to ask and not get than to not ask and not know!

When you go to work, and your SM is there, politely ask to sit down and have a conversation with them. Then say to him/her “Gimme moniez. I wants more.”

After I had been working for starbucks for 4 years my state raised the minimum wage. New hires were then making the same amount that I was despite my 4 years of experience. I brought this up with my manager and she had to ask the district manager several times to approve giving me a raise. After the raise was approved, I was making 50 cents more than new hires while having four years more experience.

If you ask for a raise, performance and experience alone are not going to get you one. It would have to be under very special circumstances.
