Recalled from LoA? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by omgitsmaddyy
Got a call from my SM saying that a store less than 10 miles away needed assistance so I was being called back from the Leave of Absence I voluntarily went on and if I didn’t want to go to that store my DM will call and discuss separation?? This sound right??

I’m pretty sure the paperwork with the choices said being called back to another store was an option, but I can’t remember.

I don’t think it’s a single shift coverage thing - it wouldn’t make sense to process you off LOA for a single shift. Sounds as though they are trying to return you and transfer you all at once.

Yes, part of the stipulations of the LOA were that they could make you come back early.. AND move you permanently to a different store based on “needs”. This was unclear and poorly communicated to many.

Not necessarily permanent, hopefully things will go back to normal and partners will be able to return to their home stores. Hopefully managers used the script, which was a legal document, to have the conversations around options which is very clear. The question “if recalled are you willing to transfer to another store within reasonable distance?” Should have been asked.

A transfer is a transfer. Often times we transfer partners for a month or two just to make things easier with scheduling the way the system works. If a store is one of the more impacted business wise and doesn’t have hours for partners, they will transfer willing partners to stores who need them, with the understanding from that SM that if needs increase at original store, they will transfer back. I’ve transferred 4 such partners and hope my store gets to a place where I can get them back. If your manager wants you back and they have the business to give hours to more partners, they will get you back.

Yes that was part of the terms... This is verbatim from the Section for things to consider before providing your descion to your manager under the COVID LOA:

• You are subject to recall. Declining to return on the date specified will be subject to separation as a voluntary resignation
• Starbucks cannot guarantee that Separation Benefits will be available in the future.
• Do you have any flexibility in your availability?
• Would you consider transferring to and have reliable transportation to get to a different location within the district?
• If another location has different operating hours, could that impact your availability?
• Ensure that your availability is up to date in Starbucks Partner Hours and your personal information is up to date in
My Partner Info to make sure we have the most current information available.

I got called back to my store next week. Same thing I was told if I don’t go back I will be let go. My SM did tell me if another store needed me I would have to go there.

I got called the day after I officially went on leave 🙄 And they want to transfer me to another store coming back. I said I would rather not...I need to talk to my SM more about where that is currently since that was mid June when she asked.
Tbh? I ain’t tryna learn another store/team/manager or change my availability. If they force me I’m going to have to peace out...

Yeah, my SM explaining it to me when the option choices were due. She said there could be times where you’d be “on-call” to work at a store. At that point your LOA would technically end, iirc.

Not sure about the separation though.

Interesting.. I’m wondering if this was just a ploy to get someone (you) to cover a shift. I feel like this shouldn’t be allowed because this wasn’t your store saying your sales are back to normal and it’s time for you to come back to work.

Idk why you're downvoted I wouldn't put it past some of these DMs and SMs I read about on here. But to be fair, you can be called back at any time from your LOA and my friend was even denied trying to take that option because too many others had taken it already

I was wondering the same thing 😹I don’t know why. I was just saying I didn’t feel like it was fair because it was over one shift.

& that’s totally fair! Honestly I wasn’t explained the options well because I moved and was in the process of transferring when everything happened. That’s unfortunate about your friend. I felt lucky after coming on Reddit and seeing how people were getting slighted. I feel like if you’re gonna get called back it should’ve only been allowed to your store & not just over one shift.
