We had a real fun one yesterday. She came through the drive thru and wouldn’t let my SSV talk, bitched that she couldn’t get a cold iced tea for 50 stars, and just ordered a “hot hibiscus” tea (wtf). Came to the window, was so pissed she was shaking stating that she always “loses her stars,” and then dropped this bomb: “Maybe if I just say black lives matter I can get a free drink”
Almost dropped her drink but instead told her that I hoped her day got better but god I wanted to tell her some other choice words.

Ugh. Yesterday all of our managers and SSVs were in a meeting for maybe an hour, so it was just 3 baristas running everything. And I’ve worked 2 person plays on bar, but I was DTO/DTR/food this time and for some reason, that was way more stressful for me. People were waiting for around 7-9 minutes (including time ordering), just because everybody was ordering multiple drinks plus we had a bunch of mobile orders where everyone came to pick up at the same time.

So this woman pulls up to the window and makes a sarcastic comment about the wait, I apologize profusely and explain that it’s just a few of us taking care of everything. She says she’s been waiting for 20 minutes, which I literally know is not true but whatever, I didn’t say anything. Then she asks, “Well are you guys still gonna be charging?” And I was like, “Uhh charging?” And she says that we shouldn’t be making anyone pay for their orders since the wait was so long. Which just infuriated me because she must’ve seen how long and slow the line was moving when she got into it, and in what world would ANY business start handing out everything for free because of slightly longer wait times. I was like “Um no, as far I know we’re still charging” because I was caught off guard by her question. That made her more upset but I scanned her card then left the window to wait for her drink because I didn’t wanna deal with it. To make matters worse, her order was wrong (my fault - I entered it in wrong because taking orders while running around the store is not something I’m amazing at) so that was just the fucking cherry on top. But then she asked for a completely different drink to replace it, and I was like whatever sure, as long as you’ll leave.

You’d think that everything going on would make people be a little kinder to those who are serving them, but no. I also hate that because we have a drive through, people think that we should be as speedy as a fast food restaurant. It just doesn’t work like that.

My amazing customers are leaving and being replaced by psychopaths. My chill ass self was replaced with someone who snaps back. I'm so confused. The end of the world is nigh.

Omg, my store the entire past week has noticed this too! Their cranky as hell! Remember when we were heroes for being open during a pandemic? Well there's still a pandemic!

Glad to hear from everyone that it’s not just my store. Yesss I remember everyone was so thankful we were open but now all this unemployed rude idiots are firing off on us for having to wait 6min in a drive through!

No, people are definitely being more insufferable. Everyone is on edge because of world events, unfortunately Starbucks customers were already on the more entitled/rude/demanding side of things and it seems like all of the new rules and delays are making people forget how to be a respectful human being because they're too damn busy being self-centered. Customer service/retail/food service/hospitality workers end up becoming the punching bags because entitled people see any minor delay or inconvenience as CoMpLeTeLy UnAcCePtAbLe and a direct personal attack to their already bad day, rather than the result of a lack of enough employees combined with so many extra steps to keep everyone safe. I work at a Tarbucks and, of course since masks are required in commercial businesses where I am, I have to inform people they can't eat or drink in store (honestly, why are we even open, it's just asking for rulebreakers to have a walk-up retail location Starbucks open right now), and at least 25% of customers act like children about it. I miss my college campus Starbucks, most people were chill and just wanted caffeine.

I am super blessed because my customers are super awesome! I’m just tired of running a 2 play when I really need 3! I am a SSV at my store and am just exhausted every time I come home! Most of our customers are really understanding especially when they see we are short staffed and running out of food. We do get those complaining ones though!
