I thought Starbucks covers our Medical Benefits for Preference 2?! (i.redd.it)

I just had dental surgery so I am a bit hazy. This is how i read option 2, but I could be wrong. Let's say your out of check insurance payment every pay check is $100. That $100 is only a portion of the actual payment. Your employer, in this case Statbucks, pays a portion of your insurance. Your plan in actuality is let's say $200. Starbucks pays what they call a credit of $100 which allows the insurance to be "more affordable" to you. This is why insurance cost so much if you go on COBRA as you would have no one to pay your credits.

When I read option 2, I read it as Starbucks would pay their portion of your credits, but in reality you would be responsible for what usually comes out of your check. I could wrong though

This makes sense to me. It also explains the difference between the "Paycheck Cost" and the "Monthly Cost".

However, this was not explained properly whatsoever to us before choosing the preference. I was on the phone with my store manager earlier today and she said that she does not understand either and that I should call them Monday (i.e., she did not have the explaination you gave us.) This is consistent with the confusion others have expressed here as well.

I feel like this information should have been communicated from corporate to the DMs/SMs, and should have been succinctly broken down to employees prior to decision making, as the leave is unpaid.

Hope you recover from your surgery swiftly. Thanks!

It sucks i was “forced” to go on LOA so now I have to figure out how to pay for insurance. I’m lucky I have a 2nd job but like you said it’s not communicated correctly to us so everyone will be surprised.

Update: I called the Benefits Center and they said that we do NOT have to pay for the medical premiums. The letter was just to be indicated that we are going from a "paycheck cycle" to "monthly billing", but the monthly bill is covered by Starbucks. I wanted to make sure I relayed this update to you!

Thanks. It was very minor. I am just a baby when it comes to the dentist.

I tried to tell this to some of my coworkers who chose option 2. It sounded too good to be true.

Whenever you take a paternity or short term disability leave through Starbucka or almost any other company, they will pay their portion and you may yours. That's why many will take only the 6 or 8 week leave as opposed to the 12 or 18 because you just cant afford the insurance.

I got this letter in the mail today (dated June 23rd). I am not understanding the context here.

I was under the impression that since I am on the COVID-19 unpaid leave of absence, Starbucks will be covering the payment they usually take off of each paycheck for the Medical health insurance (and other benefits; I just happen to only use the Medical). However, this letter is essentially saying that I am going to start getting bills in the mail in a few weeks?

I tried calling the benefits center but they are closed for the holiday. Am I reading this letter wrong?

I don’t think you’re reading that letter wrong, but seems messed up to me. As it was explained to me and based on all the information I’ve been given, SBUX is supposed to cover the premiums we pay per paycheck as part of the LOA. I would definitely be calling PCC.

From how I understood it, Starbucks will continue to pay their portion of the premium and you are responsible for yours.
Example: your insurance is $200 a month. Starbucks pays $100 and you pay $100 from your paychecks. Starbucks will continue to pay for their portion while you are responsible for yours.
It’s the same way if you were to take personal LOA.
But I could be wrong. Better to call PRSC and ask them for details.

I checked again last night in the FAQs I was sent, and it specifically says that Starbucks would cover the partner portion of the insurance premiums. So idk what the letter is about. So yeah, I’d call.

Yeah just call them. It’s obviously a mistake then and they should be able to take care of it.

Yea I was confused to. I’m going to try to call Monday . Maybe they just are paying medical?
