So.... what should I do? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Tarable-03
So we were short handed and I was doing an 8 hour day but because we were short handed, they said to not give me a lunch. Of course I eventually got one because we had a partner come in to help but should I be mad? Should I call HR? I would have only gotten a 10 for that 8 and 1/2 hour day. And we were super busy and under scheduled. Along with being understaffed.

If you worked 8 hours and your shift supervisor purposefully chose not let you take your meal break they should be written up or demoted. I think that's technically illegal in a lot of states. You should tell your store manager about it and ALWAYS remind your shift supervisor if you're due (or overdue) for a break.

It was my store manager that decided that... and she was off shift.

FUCK that. If they try it again tell them you're pretty sure that's against policy. I would passive aggressively say something like "hmmm that doesn't sound quite right to me, but you could be right! I'll email the district manager just to be sure."

Guarantee they won't fuck with anyone's breaks after that.

Man I would call the DM or PCC so fast if that went through and happened. That’s so illegal.

tbh prolly would've just sat down, got in contact with the DM and refused to get up if i was stuck in a situation like that

It never matters how busy it is. You get a break. Period. Human first. Partner Second.

I eventually got one but they were so ready to not give me lunch. Thankfully we had a partner come in, otherwise we would have been royally fucked.

How do I even email someone over this??? I know it's against starbucks rules and whatnot but texas is like super big on workers rights and stuff. Idk who to contact though. I was just gonna bitch and then bite the bullet but I eventually got a lunch. Still pissed that they even entertained the idea.

Texas has no laws around employees requiring breaks. Starbucks policy however if you work, you get a 10. If you are scheduled 6 hours you get a 10 and a meal. 7 hours you get a second 10. If your manager is not following policy I’d email your DM first. Their card should be available to you in store. If nothing comes from that call PCC to report. You should have no retaliation from SM or DM and if you experience it that is also against Starbucks policy, call PCC again.

Yeah I did some research and texas is the total opposite of what I thought!

Yeah it’s kinda messed up. Good thing our company has better policies than Texas.

No lunches again today.

Lunch breaks are barely ever taken at my licensed store we’re over worked and way under staffed right now. It’s sucks.

You have to take lunch. If time doesn’t permit it, 10s don’t have to happen. Lunch is required.
