Training my first barista! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by jessimarie97
I’m going to be training a barista next week for the first time! I’ve been a partner for almost four years (in August) and I’m just super nervous I wasn’t given a ton of help on the process and I want to be the best I can for them! Thanks in advance!

Don’t be nervous!! You’ll do just fine. Just remember to check in and encourage them to ask questions. Training can be overwhelming, so always ask “do you understand?” or “does that make sense?” just to assure they are keeping up with you. Also, I noticed it helps to not only to explain whatever a task is, but to also explain WHY the task is done. It can be something super simple (ex: when you’re warming this, you use tongs to put it in the oven so there’s no cross contamination with you bare hands and so you don’t burn your fingers).. may sound silly at first but that gives the trainee 3 facts surrounding one job, and chances are if they remember one little thing they’ll catch on quicker!

Best of luck to you & happy training!:)
