If i stay with starbucks for a while but eventually leave for other opportunity, could I be an ASM at some point? Or do I have to want to stay for a long time?

2 SMs in my district started as baristas, then went to other companies to become supervisors or ASMs, only to then come back to starbucks as an SM. Both of them have said that they had a hard time being taken seriously as a candidate for promotion as an internal hire so they proved they could do the job somewhere else.

But it also depends a lot on the DM.

You’re never obligated to stay, but they would probably ask about your future and intentions to grow in the company to promote you. They probably wouldn’t make you an ASM if you said you didn’t plan on becoming an SM right after.

Starbucks looks at ASM as an SM in training. They don't hire an ASM unless they see an SM position that is likely to be available in the next year.
