I’d say 95% of customers, if not more, don’t tip. If she treats the baristas well and is kind, I wouldn’t waste time getting hung up on it.

Does she mobile order ever? Maybe she tips digitally
squiddlyboops6 points3y ago
You know, as much as I would love it if every customer tips, it’s better to not expect tips, but greatly appreciate them when given. And we don’t know if that money was gifted to her too. I’ve had some customers around Christmas time buying several gift cards worth hundreds each.

If she pays with her sbux card how can you be sure that she's not using digital tips?
lilangel05-1 points3y ago
We believe she doesn’t because weve asked her before if she knows she can tip on the app, and she dodges the question and walks away. as aforementioned shes always super bubbly and outgoing and that can be kind of a tip in itself, but its just strange that none of us have ever seen her put cash in the tip jar. always asks to put the $7 cash on her card and spends the same amount day in and day out ($7) but always has a balance no lower than $500 on her card

Tips aren't required, and the company pays us a real hourly wage. It's not a living wage in most of the country, but it's well above federal minimum wage. Federal minimum wage is 7.25 in the States for most people, but tipped federal minimum wage is only 2.13. That basically covers payroll taxes and that's it. It's not about affording it or not affording it, some people just don't tip at places where the employees make at least minimum wage (as opposed to tipped minimum wage). I saw in a different comment that someone asked her if she knew she can tip in the app. Honestly, you're lucky she didn't complain to your SM corporate. I would be super offended if someone asked me something like that, and I don't blame her for being uncomfortable. It's nobody's business if she tips at Starbucks or not, and as long as she's being polite (which it seems like she's going above and beyond in that department), she's holding up her end of the deal.

We have a customer that's very obviously RICH. Nice watches, car, etc etc. Has a job doing something renowned (can't remember what) and he has always irked me because he come in everyday in drive through and says "hey it's ___!! I'll get _____" to try and be like, the cool beloved regular, but he always has a different food order (so it's not like we can act like we know what he wants), NEVER NEVER tips, and demands your attention fully or he gets pissy. I don't hate him, but it bothers me that he's trying SOOO hard to be a fun regular when he obviously isn't. I like regulars that are just nice and sweet. People that are try hards or pretentious make me wanna roll my eyes.

Why do you care how much money she has? She’s not obligated to tip if she doesn’t want to. Get a grip. It’s not like she’s even a rude customer.

You felt so butthurt, you responded to my old thread about customers not ordering waters in line, but at the handoff lmao. There’s a difference between cutting other customers in line and choosing not to tip. So again, get a grip.
