“Can I get a large black coffee with coconut milk?” “Sure”
Arianasagapo [OP]55 points3y ago
My favorite is the “can I get a regular coffee”
IDK WHAT REGULAR MEANS.. black? Milk? Sugar? Wtf do you want??? I CANT READ YOUR MIND.
quierocafefrio13 points3y ago
I feel you! I always give people a grande Pike when they say regular coffee and don't give me a size. I'm sure one of these days, someone will get mad at me lol
soyu-3 points3y ago
Karen: Regular coffee with regular milk and sugar. I tell them the same thing every time I come here and they always make it the same way. Whatever is the regular amount, I want.
Me: Pushes a grande black pike through and hides when Karen arrives at the window
ChibixChu1 points3y ago
It's because they use Dunkin' Donuts terms. Over there regular means with cream and sugar that Dunkin's just does. I dunno what their measurements are I don't work there lol. I usually respond in a nice voice and just say, "Regular for us means just black, would you like cream or sugar? Normal amount of sugar packets is __ for__ size. We also free pour the cream so how light or dark would you like it?" It's a mouthful but it really helps with the connection and making absolutely sure they get what they pay for and come to get.
camelus_2 points3y ago
I don't get this one? If someone asked for a large black coffee with coconut milk I'd assume they want a large brewed coffee with coconut milk? Is that not what's being asked for in this situation?
violetskies737 points3y ago
yes but black contradicts having coconut milk. maybe the customer meant dark roast.
camelus_4 points3y ago
Ohh, okay. That makes sense.
sizzlethizzle2 points3y ago
Well they would say dark or bold
lilBalzac54 points3y ago
We had this today in reverse. They wanted an Americano with milk. (Oh! Add some milk?) No hot milk not water. No I don’t like lattes. No I don’t want a cappuccino. No I don’t want a macchiato. Okay then. Just tell me about how many bubbles you like in your hot milk Americano so I can start “making it all wrong!” I give up.
norewichhea5 points3y ago
americano misto?
lilBalzac9 points3y ago
Really it doesn’t matter what you suggest or make to the guest in this interaction. What they are buying is an opportunity to publicly abuse the help, and congratulate themselves for it. I should be grateful to provide a service to the deeply troubled, I guess, and I can relate. If you aren’t deeply troubled you aren’t paying attention.
lilBalzac5 points3y ago
“No!” (exaggerated eye rolling) “I said NO WATER!” (guest mutters something that sounds like moron or gorgon or bourbon, at this point, who knows?)
FoxyOnTheRun_2 points3y ago
I legit have had some dude yell at me for putting hot water in his americano.

because he didn’t want water you see. He just wanted his americano. But no water. No, he didn’t want just good old espresso shots. He wanted his full americano. But no water. And this went on until I saw my shift and was like. Help this guy because I clearly can’t. And to this day i still don’t know what he wanted
Nofoamcappuccinos27 points3y ago
My name is literally based on one of these interactions lmao
thebetawolf217 points3y ago
Oh my god that must have been painful to sit through lmfao
Nofoamcappuccinos4 points3y ago
A lot of back and forth with that guy, lol.
"I want a cappuccini with no foam"
"...oh, so a latte?"
"NO, I don't LIKE lattes. I want a calpakrini! No foam!"
Actually it goes like this “ok no problem how many sugar would you like” “just however much you guys usually put in there” “it normally doesn’t get sugar that’s why I’m asking how many you would like” “uhhh uhhhh 3”
isglitteracolor8 points3y ago
But make it the blue sugar I’m watching my calories
Arianasagapo [OP]17 points3y ago
The best is when they want 10 pumps classic and 2 splendas
MariasGalactic9 points3y ago
“Oh, you’re using that sugar? I meant I wanted the brown one.”
Competencies16 points3y ago
I remember having a really confusing conversation with a customer who wanted a “La-Tea” I couldn’t figure out if she wanted a coffee drink or a tea she just kept repeating her made up word slower and slower. 🤦🏽♂️
luyuun11 points3y ago
“do you have regular tea?” —-what
43richierich433 points3y ago
Let them believe whatever they want to believe

What’s the best way to order a decaf iced coffee with milk in a state that doesn’t sell decaf iced coffee. I’ve been ordering grande ice decaf double shot with a splash of milk. Is there a better way? Decaf Iced latte?
Mel892512 points3y ago
Decaf iced americano with milk. a Starbucks double shot is about a dollar more expensive than an Americano for essentially the same thing the only difference is the DBS is shaken without water only ice and the A is just water added to the drink unshaken. It doesn't cost anything for splashes of milk in their either, so that doesn't change the americano's price.
mr-potatohead_5 points3y ago
The double shot would get an extra shot in it as well if it was a venti
Mel89251 points3y ago
Yep! sorry I didn't mention that I just didn't think about it since they said grande originally
toddfromhouston3 points3y ago
Thanks!!
[deleted]2 points3y ago
Upvote for realizing iced americano = iced coffee. but actually way better
hopelovepeace333 points3y ago
Ohhh I’ve got one for you guys! I got this the other day “Can I get a latte with 5 pumps of chai” I was like “So do you just want a chai tea latte?” She goes “No I want a latte with 5 pumps chai it prices out cheaper that way” 🙄🤦🏻♀️🙄🤦🏻♀️🙄🤦🏻♀️🙄🤦🏻♀️🙄🤦🏻♀️🙄🤦🏻♀️🙄
TheBlueSuperNova16 points3y ago
She’s not wrong...
hopelovepeace333 points3y ago
Understandable but next time I’m charging for a chai with two shots because that’s what it is. Stop this whole trying to beat the system thing because your just being a difficult karen. If you don’t have the money for the drink you want then make yourself a coffee at home.
TheBlueSuperNova14 points3y ago
I’m sorry if she was rude about it, but this particular drink isn’t about beating the system. It’s actually easier (and happens to be cheaper) to order it this way as opposed to saying a chai, no water, add two shots.
hopelovepeace333 points3y ago
Both ways are easy to say when it comes to ordering either one. I’ve got customers that say their drink order that’s 5 lines long faster then I can, lol! That’s possibly the reason I was annoyed by her order is because she was a snarky bitch about it when I asked if she wanted to do a chai 🤷🏻♀️
star_pants6 points3y ago
I think the difference with this one is that with a chai she'd get water with it versus as a latte there would be no water.
hopelovepeace33-5 points3y ago
Just ask for no water then, she just didn’t want to have to pay for the espresso shots in the chai so she got a regular latte with chai added to be a difficult bitch.
JCaligirl4206 points3y ago
We have a lady that gets a venti latte with 8 pumps chai and it’s like $1 cheaper to do it this way than to add 2 shots to a chai
MariasGalactic4 points3y ago
I had a lady once ask me for a venti vanilla steamer, add 8 pumps chai since it was cheaper.
andersonm4999 points3y ago
That’s kinda brilliant. I have no problem with people trying to get their drinks cheaper. If someone orders a venti upside down caramel macchiato with no caramel drizzle, I tell them it’s actually cheaper if you get a vanilla latte. Starbucks is expensive. So if they know how to save a few why not!
MariasGalactic3 points3y ago
I don’t mind as long as it’s something simple like that. Some people get a little too creative 😂
jwilkening5 points3y ago
honestly i don’t see this as trying to cheat the system. add shots are way more expensive than syrup pumps and the drink ends up being like over a dollar less
I_love_you_drugs-2 points3y ago
Ultimately I don’t care if it’s $0.05 cheaper or $1.50 cheaper. If you’re trying to save money don’t go to Starbucks
drinkliquidclocks2 points3y ago
But why would you order it the other way when a regular latte with chai syrup added is totally allowed and cheaper? 😑
I_love_you_drugs0 points3y ago
I don't take issue with that. I literally don't care at all. I just think the answer to saving money on coffee is to make it at home (especially with how diverse the products in grocery store coffee aisles have become) but ultimately its their money. that's all i meant by my comment. spend it, don't spend it, w/e
TheBlueSuperNova0 points3y ago
This isn’t someone who is getting shots of espresso and wants steamed milk to the top. Also why does it matter if someone has a way to get cheaper drinks? It’s not like starbucks is your personal company.
I_love_you_drugs0 points3y ago
thats just it, I don't care. Do what you want lol. I don't care if they order it one way or the other it's their money to spend.
VectoredClarinet2 points3y ago
I would give them the shots in the cup and tell them that is what they asked for. Fight stupid with stupid.
sweetstephx1 points3y ago
Ugh I’ve literally had people say on dt “can I get a grande black” like sir WHAT? A grande black hot coffee? Iced coffee? Americano? I CAN’T READ YOUR MIND 🙄 —- “yeah sorry a black iced coffee” 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
kmoonster1 points3y ago
Do you mean non-dairy? Or do you just want shots of espresso with nothing added whatsoever?
fugitivepope1 points3y ago
I got “can I get a cappuccino with no foam” once. so did you want half a latte or...?
