*Card Gets Declined* Me: oh I’m sorry ma’am looks like this card isn’t working. Do you have another card you want me to try?
Karen: well what’s it saying?
Me: oh it’s just saying the card is declined
Karen: I don’t know why it would say that.
Me: Did you want me to try a different card?
*Karen says something under her breath*
Me: Sorry ma’am what was that?
Karen: I just don’t understand why you have to speak with to ME with such a bad attitude.
Me: (actively thinking wtf I’ve been nothing but super nice and was about to offer to pay for her order if she didn’t have the money) oh I’m sorry that was not my intention. I’m sorry if it came off that way.
*Karen proceeds to angrily hand me cash. I ring her up and hand her her change the whole time she’s angrily staring. I grab her items and begin giving them to her*
Karen: So you’re not gonna give me a drink tray?
Me: oh I’m sorry I didn’t hear you. Unfortunately, our location is actually out of drink carriers at the moment. (This is 💯 true.)
Karen: oh of course you are.
She proceeded to take her items and drive off. Mind you the whole time I actively try to make my voice sound kind. This lady was plain mean.
Also wanted to recognize all the kind understanding customers we’ve had during all of this. Later in the day, we had a woman call and order 10 drinks over the phone and when I told her we didn’t have carriers she was so nice and because of her niceness we thought of a solution to box her drinks safely. Kindness goes a long way and people will want to help you more if you’re not a Karen to them. :) hope everyone is safe from Karens this week.

Some customers are just mad to be mad, had a guy get mad at me because he coffee was cold, even though the urn finished brewing as he ordered it. I had it off to him and he leaves for like 3 minutes before he comes speed walking back in like "dog this shit is cold fuck you and this place". So I offer another cup and he says "just give me my fucking refund." And for some reason my boss can't fathom why I I'm leaving

Oh my god if a customer ever spoke to me that way I would tell them to get out of the store. There is a difference between having an attitude and just straight up being disrespectful and borderline threatening. Stop taking shit from customers

I’m sorry you had to deal with this pleasant woman. I would chat with your SS or SM about what happened and how she acted in case she calls later to complain about you and let them know you did nothing wrong.

Yeah I let the shift know. I’m not worried about her complaining everyone knows I’m super nice. It just throws me off every time someone is that awful for no reason. It’s a good reminder that not everyone deserves our kindness.
