A manager suggested that they allow customers to choose their own happy hour on the App, and we just scan a barcode for their discount. This would spread out customer traffic through the week, and make it better for all involved.

this would actually be an amazing idea! a weekly coupon as part of the rewards program. i’m no longer a partner but i think a petition on this would get more traction with corporate than canceling one of their biggest sale days.

This is gold

As much as I like the idea, we all know Starbucks will never actually listen because they don’t care about us.
cleankitchenman10 points3y ago
They care when it’s brought to the public. They don’t want a bad image but when the doors are closed we see their true face. I watched white people say the n word and not get fired but have seen people get fired over going to the wine and spirit during their lunch break(didn’t even drink it, just knew it would be closed by the time they got off and wanted to drink that night)

I watched a heavily pregnant co-worker be sent home in tears because she gave her mark out to her husband. Like she waited in line, ordered an iced tea, someone else made it, and she got it from handoff and brought it outside to her husband. She was a hard worker that I'd known for years.
Meanwhile, the same partner that got her fired threw my cellphone in the trash and told me they didn't know where it was, lied on their application to get a shift position, and stole tips. It's backwards.
Oh! I asked her for my check from the safe (my bank was having issues with DD, so I had physical checks for about a month) and she told me she didn't know where she put it. My DM basically told me too fucking bad, they couldn't help me, so I was behind on rent for two weeks and couldn't afford groceries or gas to get to that fucking job.
I stayed 6 years too long.

The pregnant coworker got fired for giving her mark out to her husband? They live in the same house he’s just taking it home lol? I watched people get fired for things that weren’t breaking the rules and it always seemed to be to just get rid of someone. I one time got called in for posting a photo of me on Instagram drinking beer (I had just turned 21 and wasn’t in uniform) they were about to fire me, had me on the phone with partner recourses and my mom always told me if I’m about to get fired claim that I have a mental illness and whatever action they didn’t like was because of my mental illness. (I know terrible but it worked and I didn’t get fired) they didn’t want the law suit. Meanwhile you’ll see people blatantly breaking the rules, obviously stealing tips and they’ll be like unless you have proof don’t bother.
Edit: just to clarify I am diagnosed with adhd and bpd. After receiving a down vote I reread and realize how terrible what I said sounds. I wrote about me drinking and sbux calling me in about that(probably because I had posted about working at Starbucks before and they were concerned about public image) and me claiming it was because of my mental illness did stop me from getting written up or fired I just had to put my profile on private, though I don’t attribute me posting a picture of me drinking alcohol as a part of my mental illness, I definitely used it to not get fired. Shitty thing to do but at the time I needed to pay my bills and not get fired so I did what first came to mind first but I am not someone who is Neurotypical claiming that mental illness made me do it.

It’s sad but true.

I dunno what was going on yesterday, was it double stay day? I went to my local DT and mobile ordered before I got there. It was a 17-20 minute estimate on the app!!! So luckily I put in the order at home. It's about a 12-15 minute drive for me so I thought what the heck.
About 8 cars are in front. No biggie. As a partner I get it. I wasn't in a rush. All I see are cars getting massive orders of fraps!!!!! I felt so bad for the crew. I saw a MOP order leave the store that had 8 fraps. The car in front of me had 4.
I could tell my drinks were also recently made because they weren't sweaty yet.
And I bet those orders didn't give a tip.
I don't see how adding labor helps BOGO. At some point you just get in the way. Canceling BOGO is the way to go.
OR!!! go back to how they used to be. Stop making it including fraps. How about a latte BOGO?? Can you imagine making endless iced lattes? I got goosebumps thinking about it.

Can I sign if I no longer work at Starbucks?
lbucio4133 points3y ago
Yes :)

Thanks everyone for your help! Happy hour on August 6th has been canceled, per our weekly update! :)
daintypups [OP]1 points3y ago
Apparently we’re having another one This week. When we just had one last week. This is ridiculous. My partners are overworked because 3 stores in a one mile radius are closed due to covid and we can’t give out more hours. Everyday is a shit show & adding happy hour to that list is just too much and not safe.
darkwolf5231 points3y ago
Haha corporate won’t be doing that.
daintypups [OP]1 points3y ago
They have canceled happy hour on August 6th!
darkwolf5231 points3y ago
Yeah I found that out or at least they didn’t advertise it

Starbucks just spent millions on payroll despite having closed most stores for the duration of the pandemic. The company needs the cash, and (at least in Canada) we’ve been issued enough protection for there not to be significant risk.
rexi_sang22 points3y ago
If they need cash, why would they give drinks for free?
Al-Anon-14 points3y ago
Because the customers will come in at a higher rate, which means that more sales will occur (and seeing that the prices are already quite high) the revenue on the drink paid for generates profit (although less than on two). The model of BOGO hopes that the increased number of customers will mean a higher profit for the store
wandering_mind_17 points3y ago
I totally get your point but this company has a net worth of billions of dollars. The company plays the role of being “strapped on cash” just to balance out the bottom line and save face for the stock holders. The company will survive missing a bit of revenue the past quarter. Here in the US, it’s a “good luck out there” scenario. Yes we have hand sanitizer, yes we wash our hands, yes gloves, yes masks (in some states) - but how is this possible to keep up when dozens of customers are trying to enter a store at once? If it is “needed” for money-making promos in the middle of a global pandemic, then at least make it safe for Partners and the customers.
Al-Anon-3 points3y ago
That net worth is not all cash though. Most of it is in proprietary processes, intellectual property, land, etc... Those aren’t all things that can be easily liquidated for fast cash. The company is doing its best to protect us with the knowledge that we currently have, and the stores and operations are not fully adapted to the current situation. The company only has so much in assets, its high valuation is based on its regular operational income (ie revenue from store operations and such), and after varying lengths of time without any revenue, the company had to mortgage R&D and other projects in favour of staying afloat AND payroll for months on end. I think the company is still trying to figure out how to balance safety with financial buoyancy
Alex_jcw14 points3y ago
The company does NOT need the cash. What they need to do is pay us more at least until this pandemic ends. Also, even if there is not significant risk (which there is) it’s still more risky than working at this same time last year.
Al-Anon-8 points3y ago
A company’s purpose is to make money. If they don’t, we’re all out of a job. Just because people at the top make bank doesn’t mean that any big corporation doesn’t need cash. They ran most of the company for months while still paying rent, payroll, and all other fixed expenses, even without a vast majority of their revenue. That expenditure means that the company now has to slow down and even stop R&D projects which are destined to make the company greener. Being realistic, the major loss of revenue is going to have some ripple effects with regards to the company bettering itself with regards to the environment and social programs. And yes it is riskier than this time last year, so perhaps we should get a dollar or two more an hour for working these days, but also bear in mind that we didn’t have to worry about losing our jobs, insurance and benefits. The same can’t be said for a lot of people. Happy hours bring in customers and the company needs the revenue to stabilize its operations, otherwise they might have to start cutting even more costs
SteampoweredClock7 points3y ago
They can make money while treating us like human beings. Other businesses manage that, why can't Starbucks?
Al-Anon1 points3y ago
I absolutely agree, but being realistic, happy hours will be back at some point, and the process won’t be perfect until it’s practiced enough by crews. Just like any change, there will be growing pains, and it sucks for stores that are understaffed, but the company has fulfilled a lot of its responsibilities with regards to its employees by paying them through the pandemic and maintaining benefits, so I think we can afford to be more understanding
Alex_jcw2 points3y ago
I don’t like the approach that we should be thankful we still have jobs. Yes lots of people are suffering without money but you know who’s not suffering at all? The executives that still make six figures a year and have little to no change to their lives because of how the workd is right now. Corporations are deemed failures if they do not make more money than they did the previous year. It’s a bad way to run a business and has consequences for the normal people that work for them. You’re argument is invalid.
Al-Anon-1 points3y ago
We aren’t discussing the validity of the general economy, but rather the reasoning behind why they are bringing it back. I’ve been working for the company for a few years now and can tell you that it goes to great lengths to treat us well. Very few entry-level jobs offer all the different benefits that Starbucks does. Being angry that people make six figures is a matter of opinion, but the fact is that general payroll for the frontline is waaaaay more expensive and they very well could have just not paid us at all and laid off half of every crew and closed all unprofitable stores. It seems as though some people don’t recognize all the difficulties associated with keeping hundreds of thousands of employees at all levels paid normally with little to no revenue.
