We ran out of ice three times, a barista running the floor for an hour due to no shift, a call off, and no prep. May the power of Oprah be with us today.

damn sounds like you had plenty of time to sanitize all high contact surfaces every 30 min and wash your hands ! glad youre being utmost safe !
johnmarkowens48 points3y ago
Use the hand washing moments as guest training moments
sunshine45541 points3y ago
There were 15 people in our lobby, and 9 people on the floor(we still constantly ran out of everything faster than our poor CS can stock or make. We made a lot of prep prior to HH starting) but the fact that there were so many people in our lobby made me feel so uncomfortable and so angry that Starbucks is allowing this to happen. Are they inspiring and nurturing with one cup at a time? Hell the fuck no. It goes against what they're trying to stand for.

Sign the petition going around and share it with fellow partners
Signed that super quick! Happy hour during COVID is not necessary at all.

that sounds absolutely awful, I’m so sorry. honestly, at that point, I would probably just shut down and not even worry about rushing/losing my mind over customers getting their stuff at lightning speed. there comes a point where my store is so deep in the bullshit due to awful understaffing I just stop caring too much
beccaboo2u7 points3y ago
Wise and sane.
perfecktenschlog13 points3y ago
where was your shift ??
shookbarista [OP]33 points3y ago
I am the shift that showed up. The last one was sent home 🤪
perfecktenschlog6 points3y ago
ahhh why ???
Tangofett412 points3y ago
My store had an 8 man for our happy hour. And it didn't even really seem that popular, unlike the last happy hour consisting of a 3 man floor
shookbarista [OP]12 points3y ago
We had six but could’ve used the seventh.
USplendid6 points3y ago
We had 4 and honestly needed 6.
lilBalzac10 points3y ago
I am sorry you were let down. Thank you for all you do.

We had a no call no show and 3 partners have to quarantine due to COVID symptoms so we had 4 people until 4 pm and then 3 the rest of the night. Ran out of venti cups and lids , then ran out of Trenta cups and lids.....I already have PTSD
reynalu2 points3y ago
same thing happened at my store, except we ran out of all refreshers, butter croissants, cheese danishes, and were low on lemonade. Not to mention that a shift was training the entire time happy hour was taking place and they were in the way. At the end of the night a customer said “then what are y’all good for” i asked myself the same question 🤦🏽♀️
willowbambi4 points3y ago
my entire shift was just happy hour, i wanted to die on bar :')
Lolindir934 points3y ago
Sounds like literal Hell. Happy Hour Hell.

Is a barista even allowed to run the floor? Yikes
shookbarista [OP]10 points3y ago
Nope. 30 minutes is the longest the floor can go without a shift. (Lunches)
HookPushnPray-8 points3y ago
The floor can be covered without a shift up to an hour. It happens all the time, especially if someone might be up for a promotion and a store manager wants to see how they handle things.
shookbarista [OP]5 points3y ago
That wasn’t the case here as nobody is up for a promotion, moreover it was over an hour and closer to two but I rounded down so it didn’t seem I was acting dramatic
Virth2 points3y ago
Actually your feelings are remotely correct. A key holder must be on duty (being on lunch counts as “on duty” even though they are clocked out). Fun fact: my previous DM had a rule that a supervisor wasn’t allowed to leave the store on their lunch if there wasn’t another on the floor (I got in trouble for sitting outside smoking), but my current DM is ok with supervisors leaving to get food somewhere even if it’s a car ride away. So it might be up to the DM, but my understanding is: if there is no key holder, that can create serious cash handling issues. If a barista is holding keys, that’s a security violation. That being said, emergencies are grey areas. You have every right to be frustrated, that’s a lot of nonsense to deal with.

we had 3 people on the floor!! we all hated it!!! didn’t leave for an hour after close!!!!
katehasfangs2 points3y ago
Oh, no. It sucks that they were in that situation. Sorry I didn't say anything other than sucks.
shookbarista [OP]2 points3y ago
No worries. I also apologize for coming at you so strong with those previous statements. The shift was just v hard
katehasfangs2 points3y ago
Yeah, they shouldn't have happy hour at this time, especially with how staffing is. The shift is very hard.
ANONYMOUSvipBARISTA1 points3y ago
Former partner here... Definitely don't miss the happy hour days. One shift I was asked to cover 6hrs from a no-show, forgetting it was happy hour. Showed up, we were short staffed by 2 people, it was a truck day, and besides myself, the only other person who could bar was the SSV. Then the DM came in halfway through, the new person on register rang their drink up incorrectly, and the DM spent 15 minutes "coaching" us, with the SSV as the only bar person on floor and 8 people waiting for drinks in lobby + a line of 10 cars in DT, on what we did wrong. And of course my SM bolts out of the store 15 minutes before each happy hour happens.. Good times, good times :)

Sucks
katehasfangs2 points3y ago
How so? It sucks that they had to go through that. I've been there, cant imagine it during all this crap going on
shookbarista [OP]2 points3y ago
It seems that way because all you said was “sucks”. I see what you’re saying since you explained it but before it really looked like you were saying “sucks, now get over it”
shookbarista [OP]2 points3y ago
I noticed your post on the Starbucks reddit.. you’re not even a partner?

I was for 13 years, and about to again once the hiring freeze is lifted 🙃
