I would call pcc if she refuses to let you use your sick time. Mental health is covered. 100% I just used sick time for this reason. And they need to know your SM is refusing. Because that's not ok. I'm sorry you are dealing with all of these things right now. ❤

thank you, i may need to do that. do you have any idea what sort of solution they would offer?

I'm honestly not sure.. My guess is that they might have the DM talk to your SM. But I think the important thing is that a complaint like this will be on file. That way if they do this again to you there will be a pattern of refusal for accommodation. It will be easier to prove that she is singling you out and treating you unfairly. You are allowed to be sick, physically or otherwise, without being harassed. It is way more work on your part to stick up for yourself while everything else is going on in your life and you shouldn't have to do it at all. I'm sorry you are not being supported at work.

This is a problem I’ve seen within Starbucks. & to be fair it’s seriously not just the Bux but many places have this issue with managers stressing out their employees because they feel stressed. I’ve been at many different stores and only one would I say the manager is the epitome of a great manager/leader.
This is a problem with your manager and most definitely not you. Because you’re right, shit happens all the time at the Bux and you are being so open about what’s going on. That’s respectable and an honest employee. Those are the people I’d want working underneath me so I don’t get why the manager would put you even further into an uncomfortable place. I’m sorry you are even in this place and you deserve a fucking day to just take a break. So don’t fret about their worries, take this time for yourself. If Starbucks cares about mental health than it should be a requirement for managers to take it seriously and be more passionate about their partners mental health status. Get better love & keep your head up

Thank you, I've been trying to look out for myself more but it's hard when her reaction is so stressful. Especially because I've been trying to promote for a full year and she's just been stringing me along and now I know she's going to hold this over my head.

Oh I can imagine! Your mental health is much more important than whatever is going on at your store. I seriously hope that this wouldn’t be something your manager would hold over your head but unfortunately I know you could be right. I’m truly an sorry love. You matter, just remember that.

SM and shift supervisors aren’t supposed to ask you why you called out. NEVER volunteer that information. All you need to say is I’m sick. Don’t go into detail. In this situation, definitely call PCC. Your one day of trying to breathe was messed up by your boss being a bitch. I hope you get the break you need.

Thank you, I foolishly thought that being honest with her was the best plan. it's so dumb that if i told her i had a fever this whole thing might not have happened.

Hol up- they aren’t supposed to ask??

Your manager is wrong. This is a valid reason to call out and use sick time. A manager might be suspicious if you did this every week, but this sounds like the first time.

I would call partner resources to make a complaint, you can see the full explanation of sick time on page 151 of the benefits plan description. just search for it on the hub.

Thank you for your input, this is the first time this has happened.

Do you happen to have a link? I couldn't find the page you referenced on the hub. Thanks for the help!
colonade17 2 points 3y ago
Can't link because you need to be logged in to have access but when your in the hub do a search for "benefits plan description" it should be the first pdf that comes up.

Not unreasonable at all. You just experienced a lot that you deserve a little break to process it all. That on top of the pandemic, your SM should’ve understood.
