tips for clean plays? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by bedusseyy
i’ve never done a clean play before and got scheduled to lead one tonight, without even being told that i was, and was just wondering if anyone had any tips. i’ve gone over the sections in the book to kind of get a feel for what we’re doing, and thankfully i have people with me who have done them, i’m just low key frustrated that i wasn’t even given a heads up about this

Start the urns before close if you can.

oh and when cleaning anything yucky like drains, brooms, dustpan, garbage can, etc. ALWAYS CLEAN THEM IN THE MOP SINK. please. i can’t tell you how many times i’ve found yuckiness in the dishsink or in the drain from the sink, just from the dustpan. 🤢

splitting the work between the two baristas, so block 1 is assigned to one, block 2 is assigned to the other, may be effective depending on what each feels confident in doing. as they complete each task, it’s nice to have them check it off :)

one thing that’s helped me personally is to complete the easy, small, quick tasks as fast as possible so i had more than enough time to spend thoroughly working on the bigger tasks. typically my shift will do one big task (floor mats, garbage bin, etc) , while the baristas complete others (FOH/BOH fridges pulled out, dusting and vacuuming vents, fridge gaskets, coffee urns, trash cans, cup dispenser parts, brooms, dustpan, windows, coffee grinder, etc) and whatever else is on the block list, that’s all i remember though haha. really just chunking up the work evenly helps, and my shift would either bring a speaker or let us play our own music c:

This obviously won’t help you tonight but my SM has written a clean play “play” that divides the work into two people and we find it super effective

There's a section in the DRB that lists clean play tasks, and organizes them. It's a one size fits some model, so you'll probably have to edit and adapt it for your store.
