SM doesn't want me to tell anyone my teenaged son tested positive.(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Simplyroro
Yesterday my son was rushed to the ER with respiratory distress while I was at work. I promptly left the store and went to be with him. He now has a positive diagnosis for COVID19 and the whole family is being tested. In my communication with my store manager she has repeatedly asked me not to say anything to my fellow partners, she informed them that my son is sick and am taking time off to care for him, and I am now being told to self isolate and can't come back until I have had 2 negative test results.
I've worked with most of these partners for 5 yrs now, we are like family and they are some of my closest friends. Im trapped because they are worried and asking questions and i cant answer anything.

That is messed up. Call PCC and take notes with time and date and name of person you talk to. Then call the health department. This is why America has the highest infection rate right now.

Tell them they need to get tested. Your SM is probably just trying to quell panic and keep the store staffed but this is a terrible way of going about it.
Seriously it's not up to your SM. Tell your coworkers they need to get tested and contact PCC & your DM.

That’s 10000% against policy. I would call pcc & contact your Dm. If you have been in constant contact with partners it’s very likely at least one of them has contracted the virus as well. I’m sorry you’re going through this and that your sm is acting so selfish(I’m assuming they are just trying to keep the store open🙄)

Your SM is a stupid and the people you work with have a right to know.

If your SM doesn't tell the partners that your son had a positive result I think you have a moral obligation to tell them. It's possible you got it too and passed it on to your partners.
If you want to try to honor your SMs request I'd ask your partners "so what did the SM tell you about why I was on leave"
Or if you say "I'm on the covid leave of absence to quarantine until I can get 2 negative results" that will give them enough information to piece things together.

Fuck them. I’m so happy I quit hahahha

Same. I thought I was going to go so far with this company then after 3 years I took preference three and separated. All of the posts like these that I'm seeing lately just solidify that I made the best decision for myself.
This sort of thing disgusts me as we're seeing an outrageous climb in positive cases daily... so sorry you're having to deal with this, OP. I hope your son has a speedy and smooth recovery. <3

My old supervisor who I loved so much ended up quitting. Manager gave her false hope of being an SM one day then ended up not going through it even though she supported her for like a year telling her she was gonna help her become an sm. She got a job as a 911 dispatcher and she’s a lot happier :) I loved her so much she was an awesome supervisor and I know she was so tired with the company and being fed lies

I feel like you should be able to tell the partners that you’ve work with if you’re comfortable

My old store (I had my last shift two weeks ago) just closed because a partner has symptoms and worked with a high fever. They say they can’t make the partner get tested...

All cares we have nowadays are to prevent. So, even if I have tested positive but we usually do what we should - use mask, don't touch mouth and eyes before cleaning hands, etc, no one should be worried. So, even if they don't want you to tell just for people don't panic, it seems unnecessary. Although, I think the policy is to on this case all the team do the test. Probably your sm is thinking that she s doing the best for the team and probably will reconsider 🙏 hope your son get better soon 👊

I hope you told your coworkers. They deserve to know, so they can get tested and make sure to monitor their health. Your SM is wrong to tell you to keep this quiet, and they are putting their employees lives at risk. Go above them. Call your district manager. Report this until it is handled appropriately.

I came back positive. PCC called me, I was informed that I could return to work after any of the following was filled. 1) 2 negative tests 24 hours apart 2) afebrile for 72 hour no medical or pharmaceutical intervention I was also informed I was expected back at work 10 days after the onset of symptoms. After this I would have to obtain doctors notes and use my sick and vacation or go on unpaid leave of absence.
My store was closed on Wednesday AFTER I INFORMED THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT WHERE I WORKED. It reopens tomorrow. While it is closed partners must use vacation pay or sick leave. They don't qualify for cat pay.
Only partners that worked with me on sunday are being told to self isolate and get tested. They must self isolate for 10 days and they will get cat pay if they haven't had to self isolate before.

Guys, do you have any advice on not working if someone in the store has Covid? One of our partners tested positive, they’re out, but I don’t feel safe going back bc I know that partner made contact with everyone. If I don’t feel safe going back until 2 weeks what should u do?
