Inconsistency with Partners discounts? (self.starbucksbaristas)

Hi everyone! I was just hired at Starbucks before closing for COVID (I only worked one shift) and am now on COVID leave of absence. Correct me if I’m wrong, but my understanding was that we still get one free drink and/or new item daily even if we aren’t working for the time being. I always have my physical partners card with me and give them my partner numbers, but it seems to be inconsistent on when I actually have to pay or get it for free.
Yesterday, I got a free drink + sandwich but today I just ordered two shots over ice and had to pay. This inconsistency seems to happen a lot, it’s always a surprise whether I need to pay or not! I never say anything though because I don’t want to add any stress to my fellow partners, so I’m just going with the flow. I would just like to ask if anyone else has had this similar issue or if any experienced partners can shed some insight into what might be happening.

Also side question- I love Doubleshots on Ice but lately I’ve just been getting two espresso shots over ice instead of the drink. Am I ordering wrong? 😂

For the drink, order “Starbucks double shot on Ice, the drink. Not just two shots over ice please”. You get the wrong drinks because a lot of partners don’t know the Starbucks doubleshot on ice since it’s not as popular now.
For the mark out, just remind them that we get one free food and one free drink per day whether you work or not and that it’s been extended till September 30th. If you want, I can send you the picture of the weekly update where it says that so you can have it with you in case they question you.

Are you actively asking to use your markout? I noticed that some people will ask if you’ve worked today, but some people will just give you the regular discount unless you specify.

I ask if I can use my Partner numbers. I imagined that the register automatically discounted the items when you apply partner numbers, but I can make that more clear if that’s the case! Thanks :)

Yeah, I’ve noticed the few times I’ve just said, “I have partner numbers,” it’s iffy if they’ll ask me. So now I say, “I have partner numbers and I’d like to use my drink markout,” and very few issues!
