You can ask, but Starbucks doesn't really do raises for performance for hourly employees. If you search on the hub you can find a form for it, but you need your SM and DM to sign off on it, and the DM almost never does.

Typically at the end of each year we get a COLA (cost of living adjustment) raise of about 1-3%.

Nope, your manager can't give you a raise. They're done uniformly in your area, usually once a year in January, and occasionally at additional times based on cost of living and how Starbucks' pay is comparing to other similar jobs in your area.

It is a good time to talk about what skills you want to develop next, what your goals are, what they see as your strengths and opportunities right now and any concerns you have. Whether it's a good use of your time is almost entirely dependent on the quality of your manager.

ETA: ooh, I missed the you're-in-Canada part. This is correct for US, but it's possible that raises in Canada work differently. The last time merit raises were available in the US was maybe 7-8ish years ago.
