Can we please get hazard pay back? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by blkjoey
We’re being sent to different stores in the area that need coverage because their employees cannot/ or will not work because of COVID. My cafe store gets too full during happy hour, and social distancing just doesn’t happen. Why bring it back? Why fight so hard to keep a drive thru open when a customer surely can find another one less than 2 miles away? If starbucks is gonna keep doing things to maximize profits, we deserve a cut of that.

They will only bring service pay back if they also offer paid LOA for people. The purpose of service pay was to reward partners who stayed and worked while others got paid to stay home.

Wait, we can tell them we won't work cause of COVID?

Damnit, my manager called today and I said I was available because I thought the alternative was losing my job.

You can tell them that but you won’t have a job if you do

It was never hazard pay, it was service pay for those who chose to work when they had the option to stay home and get paid for it. No one has that second option, it’s not sustainable for it to continue. We need to make it through this.

There should be no instances of partners that are still employed but choose not to work if there is demand for labor. If there is demand and partners are on LoA they should be recalled by now and if not accepting, no longer employed. This is the stipulation in accepting covid LOA. Only partners who are not working and on LOA are in markets that don’t need help, or they are high risk partners.
