How to bring a double shot home. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by akboonk
I absolutely love espresso from the bottom of my heart, and I love working at Starbucks. I’ve been a barista going on 3 years now, and just a coffee addict before that. But because I only work part time and when I work I’m an opener, I still buy coffee EVERY DAY. I can’t do it anymore. My paycheck is useless. What can I have at home to make a quality espresso shot?

For context, I get a venti double shot on ice or an Undertow. So the espresso needs good crema, pressure, and temp. I recently got the mr.coffee espresso.... thing. It’s horrible. Even the instructions seem to be written by someone with limited knowledge about coffee.

I just want to make my morning drink at home, and occasionally make something for my friends. Please help!

If you don’t want to shell out for an expensive espresso machine, I’d suggest a moka. It’s not the same, but you’ll get strong coffee with a little bit of a cream. You can’t really do proper undertows with it, but it’ll do in a pinch and is much cheaper than even a nespresso.

I also love double shots on ice and undertows, but I’ve fallen in love with French press cold brew at home. It’s easy and I can make all my coffee for the week in one go. It’s also adequately strong for me. I’d suggest giving that a try, it’s not espresso but it’s yummy in its own way and may be the most cost effective method.

I’ll definitely look into a moka! Thank you! I actually used to be a huge cold brew fan but it eventually started hurt omg my stomach so bad I had to find something else. Now my French press sits on the counter collecting dust. I also had a year or two of drinking only chai lol I guess I like having a signature drink
