While it is true that your SM can’t control partners’ behaviors outside the store, they most certainly can control the partner experience in the store. If a partner is acting in such a way that is causing fellow store partners to resign, then it is certainly worth discussion and a closer look. A very candid and honest conversation with your SM or DM is advised.

With that said, sometimes you know you’re ready to walk away, and if that’s still the case, please know that our Lyra benefit continues for 18 months after separation.

Your Sam can’t control what other partner do when they are off the clock and/or on the internet.

People get fired for posting dumb stuff on the internet all the time. Remember the CEO who posted a video berating a Chick-fil-A employee?

And I said that SM can’t control what others do. I never said that SM can’t do anything about it though (like coach or fire).

I’m pretty sure before it was deleted, the OP didn’t say they wanted their SM to make the SSV stop posting racist stuff, only that they didn’t want to work with someone who made them uncomfortable because they posted racist stuff

Actually, starbucks has a social media policy that covers racism and discrimination among other things so they would be within their rights to call out the ssv (especially since they are a leader in their store) for their dangerous and harmful behavior.

I said that SM can’t control what partners do off the clock just like nobody can control what others do. I never said that SM can’t do anything about it though.

Does that partner discriminate against you at work? Does he/she use racial slurs towards you at work? What about outside of work? Do they do those things towards you outside of work?

What exactly does that partner do online that is racist?
hawaiian_potato 3 points 3y ago
Why do you feel the need to qualify what racist actions he or she is taking? Why can't you just listen to someone telling you that this is happening to them and they feel unsafe?
mykotman12 0 points 3y ago
Because if anybody can just say that they feel unsafe around somebody and that somebody gets fired, that leads to dangerous territory. What if we worked together if I told SM that I feel unsafe working around you (whether it’s true or not. I can just say it because I don’t like you) and you get fired?

Since you're a previous SM and soon to be SM, please review our social media policies.

You're right, a SM can't control what a partner does off the clock. They absolutely can fire someone for what a partner does off the clock.
mykotman12 1 points 3y ago
And where did I say that SM can’t fire that person or do anything about it? All I did is that SM can’t control what others do outside of work. That’s it.
Mariiriini 3 points 3y ago
I assumed positive intent for you, that you wouldn't decide to comment on an obvious fact that helps no one because you didn't know that a SM absolutely does have power to address the situation, which would help OP.

So you do know, you are aware OP could be helped, but you'd rather point out the extremely obvious fact that your employer can't restrict your behavior outside work, just fire you for it.

To an extent, yes.

Pretty much any company will fire you if you post racist things online or have a really bad online presence.
