transferring stores without telling my manager? (self.starbucksbaristas)

prefacing this story with a rant
i work at a cafe store with an awesome sm who’s been with the company for 15 years. last week they fired him out of no where and replaced him with an outside hire. i love my store and my coworkers but i can’t work for this man. he has no clue what he’s doing and disappears for an hour on his phone in the back when we’re busy. my old manager would hop on bar and help if we were busy but this man just sits there and rings people up as quick as he can.
i had surgery on 2 toes and the next day was alone on bar from 5:30-10 with no help from him! i wouldn’t mind as much but he’s ruined store morale to the point that my coworkers and i are miserable each shift

i want to transfer to another store near by i have friends at but i’ve never transferred before. i’d rather not talk to my manager because he’s hiring a bunch more baristas (which will our kill already low hours) and i’m concerned he’d rather fire and replace me. could i just call this new stores sm and get the paperwork started? obviously he’ll have to be apart of it but i want to go over his head as much as possible

When you transfer the SM at the new store typically talks to the SM from the old store, and usually both have to sign off on the transfer. The only real way around that is if you have a PCC complaint against your current manager, or a the other SM is willing to risk burning a bridge with your current SM by taking you without their knowledge or ok.

You have to talk to your manager as well. Maybe talk to the other sm first and find out if they even need people. Then make sure to use valid reasons for transfer (development, growth, proximity to home or school, etc ) you definitely cannot go over their head as the transfer request requires their signature to begin the process.
