STOP REACHING YOUR D I R T Y ASS HANDS OVER MY GODDAMN BAR!!!! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by s_ingramsm
Customer: -reaching over the bar to grab mobile order drinks-

Me: !!!! please! Don’t reach over the bar next time! Just let us know and we’ll grab it for you! :)))

Customer: oh okay yeah sorry
Customer, five seconds later: -reaching over the bar *again* to grab straws-

Me: ????? Hey uh, yeah just let us know if you need anything!!! Cuz you know people don’t wash their hands, and we gotta keep stuff sanitized back here so.....

Customer: oh yeah sorry I just saw someone else do it so

Me: oh well yeah they’re not supposed to do that so!!! :))))

We are in a PANDEMIC!!!! I know for a FACT your hands are not CLEAN because the store does not a have public bathroom and the public bathrooms in the area around us ARE CLOSED!!! It has always been an issue with people reaching over the bar beforehand but like??? What if those drinks were not yours??? If it is behind the bar it’s not meant??? For you to just grab it??? Just ask???

Ahhh this drove so many of us crazy that we had to move anything within any reach towards the back of the cafe so only we can grab it. It did make life easier so we didn’t have to throw away all the stuff they touched

I usually move them out of reach because I get sick of constantly seeing people do it, but when it gets busy they slowly make their way back into customer reach lol

Has a customer reach under the plexi and stretch to the front of the bar to grab a bottle of honey topping because she "wanted to know what the yellow one was." I tossed it while making eye contact and over my shoulder while leaving the bar to wash my hands I said, "please do not touch any products behind the plexi."

This 30 year old woman had a meltdown that Corona was fake and she hated me and couldn't wait for this to be over.

When she was finished and I handed her the drink I told her this was not corona specific, and our food and utensils behind the bar are not for customer use.

She looked like I slapped her and left.

She was the child of a regular who snickered the whole time and told me how awesome I was when she returned the next day.

PREACH. I’m thinking of investing in a fly swatter to keep the customs off my bar and bar items

my store is pretty small, so there isn't a lot of room to move stuff where customers can't reach it. it's pretty much a daily struggle of moving signs around to physically block customers from even being able to see the straws/toppings. we have a big ass "dont reach over the bar" sign (handwritten - our DM wants it gone but our SM won't listen LOL) blocking the straws and people STILL reach over when they think we aren't paying attention.

even when there isn't a pandemic going on, I don't want your gross gremlin hands reaching over my bar

I wish my lobby and restrooms were still closed. Idk why ours is even open. None of the others in the area are open

We moved our mobiles where they can’t reach them unless they walked around the counter. And we put some baskets in the way so they can’t get around. :)
aimsthename88 12 points 3y ago
We also hid the mobile orders from people. Now our issue is people coming in to pick them up but not ever saying anything to us- they just stand there and wait for us to notice them.
SaltySeilde 1 points 3y ago
They do that here too. We have all these signs around suggesting they should announce themselves but apparently they can’t read.......

God they’re like fucking toddlers. I’m doing a job, I shouldn’t have to babysit a bunch of adults who think it’s fine to start grabbing whatever while they wait for their drink.

The barriers are there for a *reason*. Use your brain for once and figure out that barrier = don’t go past, and pandemic = new safety mesures to follow. If you don’t like it, don’t come to Starbucks! Despite what corporate might say, it’s not actually essential.

It’s amazing — from working here I’ve learned it’s just not possible to underestimate people. Just when you think someone can’t get any dumber someone else always comes in and proves you wrong
officeboo 3 points 3y ago
my SM literally yells at people when they try and stretch themselves across the counter to grab stuff that’s purposely moved back so they can’t reach it, and then he makes a big show of throwing it all away in front of them if they’re still there. it’s kind of awesome lol

Man this was one of my greatest pet peeves. I don't miss having to tell people this then being talked back to by customers. Even before the pandemic your nasty ass hands are dirty af and you aren't supposed to reach over my fuckin bar!!! Worst thing is when they'd touch someone else's drink lid then you'd have to dump it and remake that drink. God I don't miss that while on leave at all lol
busymom35 3 points 3y ago
That’s always been my pet peeve - people helping themselves to straws, selves, stoppers, etc.... 🤨. They always apologize but then 2 seconds later there they are again!!!!!
linkmademedoit 2 points 3y ago
This made me so mad the other day that I moved the straws out of reach.
ringwormsurvivor 2 points 3y ago
Dude it wasn't cool to reach behind the bar BEFORE a pandemic, why would it be okay now??? smh
darkwolf523 1 points 3y ago
That’s why you need to yell out GET OUT OF MY SWAMP! #shrekislife
_dracaryyss 1 points 3y ago
We put tables all around the handoff plane and put the plexi shield over the gap. Works fairly well for keeping everything out of reach.
spentino -12 points 3y ago
Yeah, that’s all about you and your Starbucks proactively moving the condiments, putting up a sign, or even remembering to have the register partner remind them if they need anything in their coffee to let us know and we will put it it in there for them. 😎
s_ingramsm [OP] 11 points 3y ago
Apparently our DM doesn’t want any more signage in our store, which sucks because we are a grab and go cafe so we already have a handful of stuff we have to tell guests about where to stand and wait for their drinks and making sure they keep their masks up while inside. And even then they don’t listen
shizgettingworse 7 points 3y ago
Yep. Totally. Handsey customers would NEVER reach over the bar and pickup a bottle of syrup out of curiosity.
