Thinking of applying, help(self.starbucksbaristas)

So I’m thinking of applying to starbucks. Is it good to work there? My current job at a certain place rolling burritos is completely trash (2 years there). How are hours there? Customers? Be brutally honest, it’s hard working anywhere during these times but I’m hoping there’s something out there for me.

it's definitely a job although it's never the cool coffee job you expect. youre definitely a fast food worker not a "barista". It pays well and usually co workers are really cool! but i definitely wish someone would have warned me to look else where before applying to a major company that does not stick up for its workers!

Customers are the going to be about the same. I would imagine there is a significant overlap of the groups of people who are anal and cheap about their coffee and people who are anal and cheap about burritos. It's not a majority of people, but those few people really get to you after awhile.
Hours aren't great right now, but it does depend on where you live. Variables at each store include number of partners, region, proximity to a metropolitan area, traffic volume, physical location/visibility from the street, main demographic, etc.
I think the work itself is probably more engaging than rolling burritos. We have a wide array of different types and variations of beverages which makes the learning curve much steeper than the average service job. We also don't have separate positions like most fast food places. All baristas are supposed to be able to rotate between register, food, drinks, drive-thru, and lobby at any time
Overall, I would say it's a positive experience for most people and you will learn a lot, but it's important to remember that it is still a service job even though they will try to sell you on the "work-family/partner" mentality to get more out of you for less money.

Can say for a fact working here is very different during covid so it's very different store to store. I'd say for me personally, the hours are what makes me the happiest about this job. Make sure you know what you're willing to work. I work opening shifts so that I can have the day off (get off from 9:30 to 11 depending on the day, it's usually 10 now) to do other things. Everyone's stretched a bit thin now because of covid (a lot of my coworkers leave left) but overall I don't feel overworked. Of course I'm not too happy with a lot of Starbucks decisions over safety and I'm sure many others will agree, opening cafes, having happy hour, not being able to enforce masks with customers are all terrible decisions, but I will say they listen a LOT more than any other job I've had. That being said even if they listen to us, customers will always take priority, expect to be thrown under the bus if a customer complains about you to corporate. Starbucks won't necessarily reprimand you if you were doing things how they were supposed to be done, but it's not like they'll let you do anything about that customer. I hear horror stories of customers that have personal vendetta's against partners for dumb reasons and all but harass them now. I think overall the jobs worth it, steep learning curve, but coworkers, work environment, and benefits make it worth it.

I mean a lot of that will be based on where you are. Like I’m sure the customers here in the rural Midwest are more unpleasant than those in say California about the whole mandated mask issue, even though even they’ve had some documented insanity.
Wage usually starts above ten usd which is higher than other food service places, free online college through Arizona state, their health insurance plans are amazing (I have a state job and opted to keep my wife’s plan at Starbucks), etc.
