to all the green beans:
i’ve worked at sbux for two years now, and trust me when i say that having someone on window who is good on window is possibly the MOST IMPORTANT ROLE. i was on window for the majority of my first six months, not because i couldn’t do anything else but because i was GOOD at it. (i’m still on window a lot, even after two years, because i’m good at it!) having someone on window that can talk to customers/smooth things over/be cheerful is incredibly important because you are the person the customers interact with. you are the person you essentially makes their visit a good one. if you’re cheerful and happy and friendly, even if the customer’s wait is long or their food/drink isn’t right, 90% of the time they’re understanding about it. (plus, even with tenured partners on the window, you can’t help much other than talking to customers bc of the new covid restrictions)
on the other hand, no one expects y’all to know everything your first few months!! y’all are babies and only get a week (maybe two!) or training with your trainer before being out on the floor. ask questions! ask what you can do to help! ask someone to walk you through how to do a task you haven’t done! this job is learned mainly hands-on, while working. so don’t be afraid to make mistakes as long as you’re willing to learn & listen!
sincerely,
a barista trainer

I feel this. I had a week and half of training. Then I wasn’t there for a week because the store I was hired for wasn’t opened yet, but I got Covid before opening day. I’m back now and my manager says I’m doing good. But, I feel super useless.

i promise it’ll get better! the job is always hard at first because there’s so many things to memorize, but it will get better, and once it does it honestly becomes so fun! usually we keep green beans at window/POS because during peaks it’s hard to explain new things to them, but as time goes on you’ll be able to interact with your coworkers more :) you got this!

You’re not in anybody’s way. And don’t be afraid to ask questions, it won’t annoy them.
