Cup fund (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by randomyucky
I overheard my roommate talking about kicking me out earlier. I can afford to get a new place but wouldn't be able to pay a deposit rn. Would I qualify for the cup fund and how would i go about doing that?

I applied for the cup fund in May & got money almost immediately. I think things were easier because of the pandemic, which may still be the case. I’d apply & make your situation sound as dire as possible. Hope you get your money

I sent in my application and put in the comments thing something like "i dont have a written lease with my roommate but they decided i have 30 days to move out. I can't come up with a deposit and first months on such short notice. Once i am forced to leave, i wont have anywhere else to go without putting down a deposit somewhere" hopefully it works. The whole reason they are kicking me out is bc my roommate and their boyfriend went and did something that could have really exposed them with 20 people shoulder to shoulder and not wearing masks. I asked my roommate to keep their distance and we don't feel comfortable with the boyfriend coming over bc i am high risk and I cant risk having to miss work more. They took this as a personal attack and has decided me and our other roommate need to move out but haven't told us yet. I just overheard that they were gonna do this so we are trying to get ahead of it.

I hope they approve you & everything works out. That’s an awful situation :/ just check your bank account regularly. I never got an email or anything that I’d been accepted - the money just showed up in my account one day

I got an email last night asking for a copy of a lease agreement from the apartment i wanna get with all the move in cost, so that should be a good sign?

Any news?

When I was a SM, I encouraged many of my partners to ask for help from the CUP fund, and not a single one qualified, regardless of the severity of the situation.

I honestly feel like the CUP fund must only be paid out to corporate partners or something. It's stupid to have that system in place when it seemingly helps nobody.

This is why I never donate anymore. I'd rather put actual tips in the tip jar at whatever store I visit or am paying for drinks at.

Honestly that's what I always did too. The benefits and perks the company gives are mostly useless. I got outrageously large quarterly bonuses as an SM, when the company could use it to pay baristas a liveable wage, or use it to allow for more labor. I was running my busiest days on 60 hours of labor. That's 7 partners ALL DAY. I couldn't afford to have more than 5 partners on for peak, and then closers ran on 3 partners after 3. It was outrageous.

You have to have a letter from your landlord that they're evicting you. Just not having the funds for next mo's rent is not enough bcs you actually want to not get kicked out... speaking from personal experience. Tried for cup fund 3 yrs so, denied. However this was pre- covid.

I don't have a lease with my roommate. They just decided to kick me out
GreenTourmaline13 1 points 3y ago
I understood that from your post; I was simply telling you what I was told: that for matters involving a place to live not related to natural disaster, an eviction notice or proof of late payments from a landlord would be necessary

I mean i live in Texas and in texas, residency laws state that even if a tenant isn't paying anything to be there or doesn't have a lease, the landlord still has to provide an eviction notice with 30 days notice to move out. I could just wait until my roommate does that to apply? I know this bc we had an issue with our last roommate where we had to kick him out.

I hope you're able to get some help. :)
